I loved it! I loved the idea, your writing style, Teyla's thoughts, Rodney's thoughfulness, everything! And I actually laughed out loud at your opening paragraph, it's like you had Rodney pegged in three sentences! Seriously, despite Teyla being one of the main characters, her personality and mindset are remarkably underdevelopped (much like Ronon's). She could as easily be a simple warrior as a philosopher. I loved how you portayed her and her stuggle to still find common ground with her people when she grows so disillusioned of the Ancestors they've worshipped all their lives. Plus, with her learning more and more about technology, she would realise how many of her people's beliefs were founded in ignorance.
Also,as a native German speaker, I really really want to thank you for not making a single mistake when writing in German (unless you're German, in which case I feel rather stupid). It's really annoying to read fics which butcher your language when supposed to convey a native speaker's speech.
Unfortunately, I feel that your fic does not really offer a plausible explanation of the translator system, but then neither does the show. I mean, if the translator system is as all encompassing as you (and Rodney) say, than why can we hear Radek mutter in Czech, shouldn't it automatically be translated into English? Also, if the Milky Way system is that sophisticated, how can there be different Earth languages at all? Wouldn't everybody automatically speak the same language? Actually how would people even realize there WAS a translation device in the first place? You know Occam's razor and all that, wouldn't they just assume they all spoke a univeral language?
Anyway, sorry for getting carried away, I just meant to tell you how much I enjoyed your story, not start a dissertation! So, well done, even if it's like, wow, two years too late!
