I will eat your fandom alive.

Er, hi.

So, since I last updated, I've:

*Worked many long hours at a job I'm finding increasingly mediocre despite the fact that last night I got to sell a gay sex book to Amanda Bynes, who took care to tell me it was "for a friend";

*Failed to secure housing in Dublin, which is bad;

*Met [livejournal.com profile] monanotlisa, which was good;

and,

*Gotten hopelessly addicted to Stargate: Atlantis, much to my own shock, believe me.

Er, yeah. So about that. I think I'm going to want to post about this now. A lot. And unless I'm greatly mistaken (please, please let me be greatly mistaken) I don't think many (any?) people on my friends list are into this show. (Besides the people I just friended...hiiiiiii!) I see two solutions to this problem. This first is that you all get into it...right now! Go read [livejournal.com profile] daughtershade's introduction (with pretty pictures); then read [livejournal.com profile] astolat's A Beautiful Lifetime Event. That should be all it takes, really. Although I'm a little unsure of my pimping skills, to be honest. I forced [livejournal.com profile] spazatron to watch two episodes and I couldn't crack his anti-SGA resolve. (Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] spazatron! Damn you and your stony, stony resolve!)

Option two, of course, is that you shake your heads and with wry smiles upon your infinitely tolerant faces, ignore my odd geeky ways. You can also comfort yourselves with the knowledge that if I have something fandom-y to post about occasionally, the volume of my posts in general tends to increase as well. So that means SGA!squee with a side of B&N bitching! I can hear you shouting for joy from here.

So, in summary: work sucks. Rodney rocks. The end.

I wasn't really shipping anyone in the first season, but with the new episodes I've been leaning seriously toward Weir/Sheppard stuff.

McKay is one of those characters that I just don't want to see in a ship with anyone. I want him perpetually on the sidelines and bitching at everyone else.

I do find myself in the unique position of having a slash OTP for the first time in a TV fandom

I haven't had that yet in a tv or movie fandom. When it comes to anime, though, I've got one serious but far-from-canon slashy OTF: Kabuto & Kakashi from Naruto. I call it "serious" because I would read EVERYTHING about/relating to that pairing, if only there were more of it. But canon-wise it's not even a remotely serious possibility. ::shrug:: For FMA I have a weird liking for pre-series Kimblee/Roy fic, which is sort of my vice for FMA fic, but I can't say I'd like them actually in canon. That is mostly the extent of my slash tendencies where fic is concerned. Though Joss fandom *has* taught me to appreciate slash humor w/ subtext. Just ficwise it's still not something I seek out in tv fandom yet.

But McKay needs love! 'Cause if he can find love, then maybe it could even happen to meeeeeeeee! ;-)

But canon-wise it's not even a remotely serious possibility.

There's almost something comforting about that kind of ship, you know what I mean? If you know it's never going to happen, you don't have to get too worked up over it. When Buffy and Spike didn't end up together forever the way I had wanted, I was pissed, because it seemed so likely, for so long, and when it didn't happen, I felt like something had been taken away from me. There's a comfort in not being able to expect too much. In theory, anyway. ;-)

That said, I don't see Sheppard/Weir at all. But we all tend to see what we want to see...

I know what you mean with Sheppard/Weir, in a way. For the entire first season I didn't see them that way at ALL. I was like, "Sheppard/Weir? You're imganing things." And then the new episodes with the new season, and BAM! Little Sheppard/Weir stuff falling all around it seems. Especially the first two episodes of season 2.

There's almost something comforting about that kind of ship, you know what I mean?

Yep. No expectations, and in some ways it's so unlikely you don't even need to explain WHY they're together in the fic, because even your readers know that you'd never be able to come up with a good reason anyway.
