Heh, now this...I've been thinking and thinking about this! So far I've been able to figure out three ways for Castiel to get out of that situation:
1. He's somehow actually able to defeat/fend off the archangels—which seems a cheat; 2. Chuck comes to the rescue somehow, as he might have some sway with them (though that also seems lame and cheaty); or 3. The archangels let Cas go, but only after punishing him in some way.
No. 3 seems the most probable, or at least the most fic-effective, but I haven't come up with any take on it that works to my satisfaction. Let me know if you have any better thoughts! I am very curious to see what Kripke & Co. will come up with...
