Mad Men manages to stay just over the line for me—there are enough characters whom I like, or at least find intriguing. Plus the clothes are pretty. ;-) But yeah, it's hard when you don't have anyone to root for. I tend to read for characters, and not so much for ideas—and The Group is definitely an ideas book.
There really are not a lot of good angel books, are there? I've read a couple others that are okay—Angels on Fire by Nancy A. Collins, and Eternal by Cynthia Leitich Smith—the latter I just read and haven't gotten around to reviewing yet. It's sort of cracky fun. And—I'm embarrassed to admit this—I just read Angel Time by Anne Rice and it did not totally suck! But have I found anything even close to Good Omens or Vintner's Luck good? Alas, no. :\
