Re: dæmon sex vs. sexuality, we actually had a debate about this in the HDM de-cal I took. And, as I said then, I just can't believe that Pullman would really do something that moronic. For one thing, the main characteristic of the person he describes as having a dæmon of the same sex is that he's a loner--completely anti-social or asexual, not gay. Also, he's the only person with a dæmon of the same sex in all three books, and even if you don't believe the 1 in 10 stats, there have got to be more gay people than that. And what about bisexuality? You gotta leave room for bisexuality!
I should write Pullman a letter: "So, Phil? This issue of dæmons of the same gender is really interfering with the slash fanfic I'm trying to write. Can you maybe clear that up a bit?" ;-)
