Oh yes yes yes. He wrote the Aubrey/Maturin series (that's the real name for it! I swear!), which since the movie has basically come to be known as "them Master and Commander books." I started reading them...actually, now that I think about it, I started reading them for the exact same reason that I started watching SGA: astolat wrote some fic *cough* (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/#master_and_commander) (and especially) *coughcough* (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/master_and_commander/five_things-world.html), and I fell in love with the universe. And the books are terrific--far better than the movie. The first, indeed called Master and Commander, is a little slow, but the series takes off from there, and there are twenty of them. Prior to 2004, I never thought I'd say this, but reading 20 volumes of naval fiction was the most fun I had all year.
