Five Things Meme: Part I

For [livejournal.com profile] springwoof: Five magazine covers the band was featured on (and why Rodney hates them).

1. Rolling Stone

“The Puddlejumpers: Band of the Year”

What a brilliant idea! Let Ronon stand in front of everyone. He knew that photographer was an idiot.

(Also, seriously: why did he let John talk him into wearing that coat?)

2. People Weekly

Shep’s on the cover of the 50 Most Beautiful People issue. The whole band is given a photo on the inside, as well as a lavish, drooling write-up for Shep, and almost equally praise-worthy paragraphs for Ronon and Teyla.

Rodney gets this sentence: “Even the band’s lead guitarist, Rodney McKay, is handsome in a frog-like way.”

Rodney’s shriek of “What?” can be heard across the recording space even without the aid of his microphone.

3. Time

“The Puddlejumpers: Band of Our Time”

(Oh God, does his mouth really look like that? And his hair looks like it’s thinning. You can see that it’s thinning! He should buy a hat.)

4. The National Enquirer

“I just got off the phone with Mister Caldwell,” Elizabeth says. “The label would like to meet with you.”

Rodney nods. Beside him, John is still as stone.

“All of us?” Teyla asks. Like a challenge.

“No.” Elizabeth folds her hands. “Just…” She doesn’t even have to say.

“We should go together,” says Ronon. Rodney wants to tell him not to be an idiot. He wants to hug him.

Elizabeth sighs. “I’m afraid it’s out of my hands.”

And it is: out across the world, in every major paper and on every 24-hour news network and atop all but the most catatonic blogs. The story. The photos.

For the first time, Rodney feels some respect for the tabloids. They just printed what they were sent, splash across the front page (with a promise of the juicier images inside), the headline as bold and plain as it could be. SHEP AND PUDDLEJUMPERS GUITARIST CAUGHT IN GAY SEX SHOCKER! At least they were upfront about it.

Though did they really have to name Shep and not him? Rodney is just as important…and just as gay, dammit. He takes it back: everyone at The National Enquirer is an asshole.

There was no reason to single John out. Because as much as the label, as the media, would like to make him think so, John is not alone in this. Rodney knows it. He looks at Ronon and Teyla, at Elizabeth and Radek and Lorne. Deliberately, he reaches over and takes John’s hand.

“Come on,” he says, relieved when John doesn’t pull back. “Let’s get this ridiculous farce over with.”

5. Out

His mouth looks weird and his hair looks thin and he should never have let John talk him into wearing that coat. Otherwise, it’s fine.

You make me so *very* happy.

(I totally vote for them covertly outing themselves.)

Also, "frog-like"? No! Carson's the one who looks like a frog. An aged, jowly frog.

My face hurts from smiling so much. I love this series.

Also, I've been listening to The Dandy Warhols, "The Last High" like a madwoman ever since you put it in your music mix.

I was downloading this to read later because I can't stay away from this universe even though it breaks my heart. I find myself thinking of it at odd moments, and of course when I hear any of 'their' songs. I haven't even read it yet, but skimmed down to make sure that was all of it and saw the last magazine and I actually teared up with happiness-that's how real you've made them and this universe to me.

Um, all I can think to say past the inner squee is, AIEEEEE! Out magazine!
Happy day!

Handsome in a frog-like way made me snicker into my oatmeal.

I love Rodney's background muttering in this.

Otherwise, it’s fine. Yay! And thank goodness! And yay!

You made a happy ending by imaginary magazine cover. That is amazing!

Of course, I still want to read the fic... ;)

How many people believe that singers and their lead guitarists are fucking?
LOTS.
Too many musicians to name looks and act like they wanna fuck each other right in front of the audience. It's like... *waves flaily hand* canon!
*chuckle*
And your stalker continues... ;p

Oh very fun. I didn't realize this was here when I read the universe originally. :D Thanks for sharing!
