Checked it out. It's Real Person Fic, yes? I appreciate the snippets and the warnings to read the snippets, although - please take this in the constructive spirit in which I intend it - I'd rather you'd just gone ahead and said it was RPF in the index page, right up front, rather than making me read the snippets to find out.

It seems you were deliberately vague on this "RPF" point. Why? Is RPF not normally warned-about? Or would it have ruined the "punch" of the story to warn up front?

No one else seems to have been bothered, so I suspect it's just me. But thing is, my husband's an actor. So are all our friends. The idea of someone RPF-ing one of them squicks me on a grand scale. And yet I suspect it may be out there. It's one thing for someone online to call one of his friends "hot" or for a fan to oogle him on the street - which happens, sure. But RPF? Of someone I know? That's just...

My attitude there flows into RPF in general. I prefer to avoid it, so I appreciate when people warn.

God, I can be long-winded. :rollseyes at self:

Oh man-- how to answer the question.

We talked about this and by we, I mean many of us.

The thing is, in the end, to us it wasn't RPF so much as a HUGE METAPHOR. It sort of transcended the line and so while on a technical level it IS RPF, it sort of wasn't. Which is why the warnings and headers were structured like that. So that people could get a feel before/as they figured out it was on that line or over it. But we still wanted the fact that it did, on it's basic level, conform to the rules of RPF available for those who simply couldn't read it for various reasons.

I (and I'm sure Trin does as well) totally understand why some people will skip over the story and I'm glad that you took the time to read the headers and I hope it was convenient enough for you. Just remember there are people on the otherside of the line, who have expressed their appreciation for being obscure. We tried to balance everyone's preferences and hope we hit almost everyone.

Speaking of metaphors - you know there's always gonna be one sour apple in the barrel. This time, it's me!

Hey, it's not everyone's cuppa ;)

I'm just glad the people who are in your camp are being polite and nice and understanding. *is still in her fireproof suit* *g*

Um. I don't really remember why we chose to do it this way, although it was discussed at length and this seemed like the best way to satisfy everyone (as best we could).

I understand how RPF can be squicky. I have relatives who are actors, and family friends who are actors in shows I have actually been fannish about (that was embarrassing...) so I can certainly understand the discomfort. But then, I like RPF too, in other contexts. So...um, I guess what I'm basically saying is: I hear ya! And I hope what we did was, if not perfect, then at least adequate?

If it was the best you could do without giving the whole thing away, then it was the best you could do. I wouldn't add the explicit warning if it gives something away, or takes something from the story.

You were fannish about shows with actors you knew in them? That must have been weird. For me, everytime I see a friend in a show or film, it throws me right out. Instead of enjoying the film, I'm, "Woah! Joan!" for a moment. And don't get me started on the love scenes. Those just make me giggle.
