Mugging for the Camera

Still haven't heard about the you-know-what. Some distraction, in pictorial form:

Last night I went to take out the garbage and saw a brilliant rainbow in the sky—really rare for L.A.

This is the view from the alley at the back of my building, where the dumpsters are, and where I first looked up and went, "Wow!"

Coming back into the courtyard, I could see the rainbow touching down to the east as well.

The rainbow was actually so huge that I couldn't fit the whole thing in one shot! Still, it's really not every day that you get to see rainbows and palm trees together.

[livejournal.com profile] wychwood made me the most incredible birthday present this year. She started out with an ordinary mug from Marks & Spencer...

(This is her before photo, which she took, which is why it's of so much better quality than mine.)

The pilot figure in the first and last photos inspired her to use paint to alter (and vastly increase the awesome) of the other figures. So now I have a mug boasting the likenesses of:

A mountie (Benton Fraser)

And the Doctor (the one and only) <--ETA: *realizes what a dumb comment this is* It's Ten, okay? *feels lame*

How incredibly awesome is that? *loves it* (And yes, if you're noticing that there are some cracks in the handle, that's 'cause my cranky mail lady broke it in two cramming the package into my tiny tiny mailbox. Thanks, USPS. Or really, thank god for superglue!)

Okay, those are all the pictures I have ATM. I guess I can work on my booklog, which I am ridiculously behind on. *waits anxiously by the phone like a besotted teenager*

I'm so envious right now. What an awesome present! You are clearly well loved. :)

[livejournal.com profile] wychwood is made of utter awesome! *feels all warm and happy*

That mug is made of the awesome. Shame USPS are almost as retarded as PB who posted my back-up modem - granted, a tiny USB dealy - through the letterbox. WTF??? The terms 'FRAGILE' and 'PHOTOS: DO NOT BEND' really don't mean anything to the average mail-person obviously.

Those bottles behind the mug look really cool, btw. And jeez, I wish I lived in a building as nice as that...

I think working at the post office—any post office—makes people strangely apathetic. I don't know why the morale is so bad, but it seems to make people not care, so you end up with objects that clearly don't fit shoved into tiny spaces, instead of walked the last ten feet to the door. Maybe postal workers should get more days off.

The bottles are these really cool martini mixers I got from a friend. They're so pretty I almost don't want to drink them! And I'm glad you think the building's pretty—I was won over almost instantly by the courtyard myself. *loves SoCal*

I've never met a mailman so apathetic as the one here. I've had some problems in the past, but PB really are awful. It took them 4 days to deliver my laptop which I paid an extortionate amount for 24 hour shipping for. And when I ordered a stack of stuff from Play rather than get the individual packets, I got a box full of them at the end of the week, including several that were for various other addresses in my general area. And getting PB to collect them and deliver them - pfffft. I still had them up until about a month ago when I gave up and decided to keep them, knowing that most likely Play had redelivered them by now. As far as I'm concerned, I did at least attempt to get them collected...

If I had those bottles, I don't think I could drink the contents. Way too pretty. Remind me of these little vases you can get from Ikea over here that come in about 20 different colours. Had some of those, but they got broken when I moved in.

I love your building so much, I'm almost jealous. If you saw where I live, you'd understand why.

...that mug is so unbelievably cool.

I know! I'm almost envious of the tea that gets to be in it. ;-)

Oh man, thunderstorms! And stars! There are some unfortunate drawbacks to L.A.—we kind of miss out on those things. And usually rainbows too.

I wish I had a duplicator so everyone could share in the awesome of the mug! ;-)

omg...I am so jealous. I want that mug!

:)

Coolest B-Day present EVER!

Best mug EVER! Nice work, [livejournal.com profile] wychwood! And lucky you.

I just can't get over how awesome it is. ([livejournal.com profile] wychwood could totally make a fortune if she sold them on the free market. *eg*)

OMG

I was jogging last night and saw the same rainbow and just had to stop and stare at it. People probably thought I was insane. Oh well.

Hey, cool! What area do you live in? I was trying to figure out how far away it was visible from. I'm in West L.A. near Sawtelle, but my parents are on the Miracle Mile and they didn't see it. *ponders*

My neighbors thought I was crazy too, but then I showed them what I was snapping away at and a lot of us stood on the second floor and ooooooh'd a lot.

I live in Studio City, Valley Village specifically.

Is it just me, or does your courtyard/apartment look a whole lot like Veronica Mars'? Awesome.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
It does, kind of! Though we don't have a pool. *sad*

Ahh, SoCal. *heart*
