Lord, what fools...!

1. Does anyone know if there's a community for Scrubs downloads? I miss Zach Braff!

2. I realized that I don't have any icons of Rodney smiling or looking happy--I'm all about the moody, angsty shots for some reason. Can anybody point me to some happy!Rodney icons? He's got such a pretty smile...

3. What is the general fandom opinion about giving first names (or last names) to characters that don't canonically have them? I try to avoid it as much as possible, but if you're seriously writing about these characters, it eventually becomes necessary. In their wonderful fics The Sincerest Form of Flattery and Identification, [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne and [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse have set a precedence for Lorne and Parrish being called Nick and David, respectively (ETA: apparently, this originally came from [livejournal.com profile] casspeach--*tips hat*); this is one case where I really like there being a fanon rule, because there is no canon one, and it weirds me out when it's like, "Oh, he's Bob this week, is he?" I dunno, maybe I'm just a whore for consistency, but. Thoughts?

4. Hey, you know what I need? Tips on how to seduce my new Irish Literature tutor. He looks like Dylan Moran, he's SCOTTISH, he's cute and adorable and I want him ON ME. I'm serious. Really, really serious. How does one go about seducing someone? Like, in real life and not in my silly two-bit porn. EDUCATE ME.

*cough*

5. Yeah, and does anyone have Franz Ferdinand's You Could Have It So Much Better that they could upload for me? I'd be happy to upload something else in return. Or, um, I could add the fic prompt of your choice to my already lengthy backlog. The choice is yours!

...

His name is Peter. I...both hate and love feeling like this. Hate because nothing ever comes of it, but love because...I never stop hoping. Never.

I have nothing useful, but yay Zach + Scrubs! The new season is SO GOOD so far, seriously. :) And I have a serious lack of Rodney icons at all. It makes me sad.

I have the first three seasons of Scrubs, if you want some...? I dunno, what's the best way to upload whole seasons of television? :/

I also have nothing useful to add, really, except that I gave Lorne a name (Michael), but I don't know that there's any fanon consensus. I think the Gateworld boards basically agreed on Marcus, but I just... No.

low cut shirts are, i've found, wonderfully distracting. no, seriously, watch me some time when some hot lady walks in wearing a low cut shirt. i won't talk to her cleavage, but i'll definitely take note.

don't be nervous around him. just be comfortable.

...I prefer completely hopeless (and hopefully invisible) crushes, myself *g* It saves so much effort.

I would say "pretend you are John or Rodney and want to seduce someone", but Rodney would go for the brute force attack ("Want to have sex? Go on, you know you like me really" &c) and John would either try to be charming and wait for the object to hurl itself upon him, or be incredibly dorky. Not really the rolemodels you want *g*

[identity profile] tikiaceae.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Scottish Dylan Moran, eh?

No advice from this quarter, I'm afraid... other than omg, *stalk* him!!! Get him *drunk*!!! and such. However, I will watch Black Books again tomorrow. *g*

*points to icon*
He looks pretty happy there. I don't have that many happy Rodney. In fact, I think that's the only one. Hunh. *ponders* You're welcome to this one if you'd like.

If you ever learn the magic rules of seducing your prof, TEACH ME! But apparently the way to become semi-friends with one is to wait until he goes to another continent where he doesn't speak the native language well and is thus lonely and emotionally vulnerable, email him long abstract questions about a topic of mutual interest to which he will write long abstract replies to because he is lonely and emotionally vulnerable, continue like so until you go from questions like "How does the historically specificity of value compare to the extraction of surplus value as the essence of capitalism?" to "So what's your artistic style?", declare yourself friends and prance about like a fifteen year-old.

I'm just saying.

*sniff* OMG, I miss TELEVISION! I mean, I've been getting Lost and SGA thanks to the wonder of the internets, but I'm really starting to hit major Jon Stewart and Zach Braff withdrawal...

Worst. expat. EVER--have I mentioned? ;-)

Hmm. [livejournal.com profile] severusslave has some good Rodney icons I think...

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that would be awesome--especially S3, which I haven't seen all of. But, uh. I have no idea, unless you have massive amounts of personal webspace...

Either way, thanks for the thought!

MARCUS?! Sickos. ;-)

I like Michael. I like Nick. I like...things to be official, dammit.

*sigh* Sometimes I'm so old-fashioned and traditional...

If they really loved us, they'd let Lorne hook up with Elizabeth give Lorne a first name already. *pout*

If you find any cute Rodney smile icons up for grabs, link to them, please. *g* I should go on a capping spree for smiles, man. They're all so cute when they smile.

Meanwhile, help yourself to mine, if you'd like. Feel free to modify it in any way.

I feel obliged to point out that both [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne and [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse are honoring [livejournal.com profile] casspeach with their choices, as she was the first to use those names. (At least she was for Parrish - not sure about Lorne.)

I can't take credit for Lorne's first name being Nick; [livejournal.com profile] casspeach started that with Animal Husbandry and I liked it so I stole it. *g* (And actually, Cass is responsible for Parrish being David, too. *g*)

Personally, I like them having consistent fanon first names, so long as they're not the wrong first names. (Marcus? No. Just...no.) Mostly because virutally no one thinks of themselves by their surname, and so if I'm writing something from the POV of a character who doesn't have a canon first name, it makes me cranky.

Also, I'm uploading You Could Have It So Much Better for you. I'll let you know when it's done, but it's going to be here in maybe 90 minutes.
wychwood: Marcus and his pike (B5 - Marcus pikal envy)

[personal profile] wychwood 2006-01-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
What's wrong with "Marcus"? I like the name!

(well, apart from the deep and lasting WRONGNESS of Lorne being called Marcus, anyway *g*)

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooops. My ignorance--thanks for telling me!

[identity profile] slashygood.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] transit_center has all the fourth season of Scrubs, and the fifth is in the process of being uploaded.

Waterstones sell a book on serious DIY seduction. Not that I have a copy. ::cough::

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
But all the glory could have been yours! Noooooo!

Erm, I mean, thank you for telling me; I'll edit the post to give proper credit. *g*

Personally, I like them having consistent fanon first names, so long as they're not the wrong first names. (Marcus? No. Just...no.)

Heh. Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] slodwick told me about the Marcus thing. Where the hell did THAT come from? What crack are they smoking?

Mostly because virutally no one thinks of themselves by their surname, and so if I'm writing something from the POV of a character who doesn't have a canon first name, it makes me cranky

Exactly. Or, to use another example, I have this scene in my head between Parrish and Heightmeyer--no way is your shrink going to call you by your last name. It'd be weird. And unless you're Mulder or Scully, it mucks up sex scenes, too.

Thus, if I ever get the fic in question done, I suppose that this is the official announcement that I'll be following in your ([livejournal.com profile] casspeach's!) footsteps--hurrah for fanon first names!

Also, I'm uploading You Could Have It So Much Better for you. I'll let you know when it's done, but it's going to be here in maybe 90 minutes.

Oh, thank you SO MUCH. Is there anything you want? I have...well, a lot of random stuff, including an inhuman amount of U2. But feel free to ask!

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm just afraid that an actual canon first name will be the curse that kills him. "Sure, you can have a first name--on your GRAVE!!!"

Mmm, Elizabeth/Lorne. Or Elizabeth/Caldwell. Or Elizabeth/Zelenka. Or Elizabeth/Ronon. Oh, she's such a skank! Look at how she toys with all the boys' affections!

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a lack of low-cut shirts may be a large part of my problem. Well, that and my utter lack of social skills.

don't be nervous around him. just be comfortable.

Comfortable. Gotcha.

Erm, and also? Will try to think of lots of profound and clever things to say about Yeats...

Why am I hearing that in the voice of a plastic dinosaur?

Or Elizabeth/Lorne/Caldwell/Zelenka/Ronon, if we're being honest. She'd be all over that.

Clearly, our similarities go beyond cooing over David Hewlett at the same time. I thought the exact same thing today, and have a bunch of half-finished icons smiley!Rodney icons sitting open on Photoshop at home.

In the meantime, have a Ronon icon:

I'm just worried that his canon first name will be AWFUL. like...Jim. or Brendan. Or some other namewhich is perfectly fine and respectable but JUST SO WRONG FOR HIM.SO WRONG. YES DAMMIT I KNOW THESE THINGS.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Bert.

Oh, I'm sorry, Parrish is Bert. Lorne's Ernie.

[identity profile] casspeach.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I did tell [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne that she could have the glory, because I am a shy and retiring wallflower and because I only named either of them because she made me (see her cranky comment!). I do really like it when people use the same names though, because they are their names in my head.

I shall refrain from giving my opinion of Marcus as a first name for Lorne (see above comment about shy and retiring) but I couldn't allow it to pass unchallenged.
