So I took this class on the history of revolution and rebellion in Mexico during my sophomore year of college, and at one point in the semester we were discussing the leftist movements of the 1950s and 60s in the wider geographic region. And my professor, an extraordinarily cool woman who wound up being my thesis advisor even after my total lapse of decorum, started talking about Che Guevara and the Cuban revolution and such, and put up a picture of Che on the overhead.
"So-- why, exactly," quoth my professor, "were some of the ideals of the Cuban revolution were so well received in certain circles within Latin America?"
And I was totally going for the sotto voce comment, but alas. "Because Che's fucking hot?" wound up broadcast across the classroom.*
Oh, the idiocy.
* Did I mention I went to undergrad in Georgia? I love my state, sure-- but it's not precisely the best place to express an appreciation of either Che's politics or his ass.
