Lemon?

My apologies if other people have mentioned this, but check out this shot from the scene where Elizabeth first comes to talk to Rodney about Ascension:

I think Rodney is using his altered DNA to enjoy citrus!

I totally have an unfinished fic where he does that. (Hmm. Perhaps I should just turn it into a porny missing scene?)

Rodney, I love that between making scientific advancements in the field of science and being like Jesus, in a way, you found time to sample Asian lemon...whatever. *heart*

ETA: Oooh! And again! Good, he got to try the orange, too:

Hee. That is hilarious and awesome. you are clearly more attentive than I am, because all I could do was focus on his hands. Mmmm, hands.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hands nice. Rodney making porny noises when he tries some sort of yummy lemon thing for the first time? Also nice. *g*

I'm totally sticking with the altered DNA explanation. It's so much more fun! But yeah, either way, I'm impressed at the unusual degree of subtlety!

HEY! Neat! Oh Rodney.

I totally vote for the porny missing scene!!

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
He needs to make lots of blissful little noises when he tries it for the first time. Or have someone feed it to him. Or BOTH!

DESSERTS ARE VITALLY IMPORTANT.

Especially to a brain like his. *pets*

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
RODNEY'S GENETICALLY ADVANCED BRAIN SAYS DESSERTS ARE FOR YAY.

And I say we listen to him!

[identity profile] inthekeyofd.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was because of his alteredness (is that even a word) his allergies were taken away..that's what I'm thinking, I mean, if he can heal, those allergies are gone. *smile*

So I guess he had some time to make up for. *smile*

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope he got to try something like my aunt's lemon cookies. YUM.

[identity profile] amireal.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Note: You know how they're all talking ab out how much he eats? He's got a PILE OF FRUIT on his plate when they talk about it.

Not you know, later when it's wrappers of things that are possibly less healthy.

*facepalms* I feel this is The Hewlett making his own statement.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what was up with all the stuff about Rodney's weight, but since it was pretty much the only sour note for me in the episode, I'm gonna try real hard to ignore it. (Although seriously, where are they going with that? And what makes you think it's the Hewlett? 'Cause it makes NO SENSE to me. Food is for yay, and y'know, god forbid Rodney should enjoy some fucking grapes.)

Separate from that, though, I'm going to enjoy the thought of Rodney getting to have some yummy citrus experiences. *pets him*

I saw this earlier as I was rewatching the ep, and I thought it can't be! It must be mango juice. But from your caps, I can see it is indeed lemon and I love that he experiments :)

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I caught a glimpse on my second run-through and thought, "Wait a sec..." so I went back and paused it. Sure enough...!

He must have done it under carefully controlled circumstances the first time. Do you think he had Carson standing by? Did the idea to try just come to him, or did something inspire him, or did John or Ronon think of it...

This needs to be explored further. ;-)

Yes! I was watching the ep on a new program yesterday and the FF and REW functions were very fussy, so I had to keep going forward and back and forward and back until I finally managed to freeze on that shot to see if I really saw what I thought I saw. So cute!

[identity profile] an-kayoh.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mango. Mango pudding to be exact. Are mangos citrus?

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
There are several different kinds, though. Are you sure they're all mango? The first one looks like lemon to me.

De-lurking briefly to say, yes, it's mango - it actually says "mango purin" in Japanese on the packaging - but how did a Japanese product end up in the Pegasus Galaxy? Maybe it was a present to Rodney from Miko, or Kusanagi, or Kusanagi Miko? (Is she one person or two?).
Also to say please, *please* write some more SGA fanfic - maybe about Rodney and Miko's Secret Love? - because *the world* needs trinityofone to write some more of the best SGA fanfic there has ever been or ever will be, so there.
Now I'm embarrassed about sounding (a) nitpickingly pedantic about fruit-based products and (b) sucky about begging a writer for more fanfic, so I will now return to lurking.
As you were ...

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-12-13 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. Are they all mango? That first one looks like it has pictures of lemons on it, gosh darnit!

*has all fantasies ruined*

It was totally a present from Miko to Rodney, though. Or else Rodney's just really geeky and shops at Asian specialty markets when he's on Earth. *totally doesn't do that herself* ;-)

Thanks for the nice words about my fic. I WISH I could write more...just, the well has been rather dry lately. But I keep trying!

PS (after a quick trip to Wikipedia) - mangoes are not citrus. They come from Mangifera, while citrus fruits come from Rutaceae. But here comes the clincher: “mango” and “citrus” are always given separately in ingredients lists, which are among my main sources of scientific information (aren’t they among everyone’s?).

I don't have my glasses on (and yes I am that blind that it matters in a picture of this size) but that says mango pudding in katakana.

whoops, and now I see several others already said this. Sorry to rain on your parade there. *waves hands* "This never happened! We swear it really was lemon!"

[identity profile] cincodemaygirl.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I rewound that part about sixteen times. Hilariously, I am crazy fond of the orange pudding/jello thing, which I actually missed when watching the ep--but there are are several in my pantry!

[identity profile] cincodemaygirl.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and to be more specific, no, the ones I have aren't citrus, but there are so many varieties that I assumed they must make some. I like the pineapple one best.

[identity profile] maribouquet.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hawesome! Good eye, there, lass. (she said in her totally pointless yet highly amusing to self Scottish Space Doctor voice.)

[identity profile] 20thcenturyvole.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Dude! I totally thought I was imagining it!

[identity profile] bruinsfan.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always maintained that Rodney is a hypochondriac about the citrus allergy based on the divergent timeline version of him in "Moebius" being fine with it. Maybe he had a reaction to something else and blamed it on citrus instead?

At any rate, I've always thought it odd that he demonstrates the symptoms of hypoglycemia but doesn't constantly talk about that.

[identity profile] seektheinfinite.livejournal.com 2006-12-15 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't see it the first time around, but on the second viewing I did, and thought that maybe I was just imagining things. Or maybe it was like the boxers thing in "Sateda" where everyone had their own interpretation of what it was. But then after watching it a further five times, and discussing it with a friend, I was convinced it was lemons. And now I'm feeling rather stupid, because I didn't actually think that the reason he could eat citrus was because of altered DNA.
And I would definately love to read that porny missing scene. :)

[identity profile] niennah.livejournal.com 2006-12-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
The katakana on that tub says "mango" so I reckon it's not lemon. Though it really looks like a lemon! I'd be tempted to say it was a lemon & mango dessert but I can't see "lemon" written anywhere.

What a cool superpower that would be, though. No more allergies!

Hi, i was wondering where you were watching the new episodes of SGA? I mena i cant find them on SciFi so it may be a bit dumb of me to ask. Thanks.

[identity profile] nemesina77.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
They are being shown in Canada.
