Am I the only one who really didn't like that at all? The plot was Good Omens Lite, but not as cool (whereas "Good God, Y'All" was, I dunno, Good Omens Raspberry Flavor or something—derivative but still fun). They clearly did not know what to do with Castiel at all, which I find ridiculous, as I can think of many, MANY things to do with Castiel. (Some of them are even appropriate for television!) And you know, I don't think they really knew what to do with Dean, either, except use him as comic relief. I had similar problems with "After School Special" last year—same writers, and while I think they do give good Sam, I feel a disconnect with the way they write Dean. The LOLs are there, but it's a very shallow portrayal, and coupled with the TOTAL WASTE OF CASTIEL, COME ON YOU GUYS, AFTER NOTHING LAST WEEK, REALLY? I just...bleh.

Also, even though he was clearly, clearly lying, and with good reason, when Dean said Cas wasn't his friend, I kind of felt like I'd been stabbed in the heart. I've had some tequila though, so maybe later we can blame this on my being a weepy drunk.

I should go to bed, and in the morning write some porn to make myself feel better. *nods*

Yeah, I'm not despairing for the rest of the season or anything. I'm really looking forward to next week two weeks from now. I just thought that this? Kinda sucked.

I'm a cranky drunk too!

I think I actually gasped 'JUDAS!' at the screen when Dean said that. Even though technically I guess 'DOUBTING THOMAS' would've been more Biblically accurate... either way, it HURT MY HEART. But then he made up for it by calling Cas his BUDDY and caressing the action figure all lovingly.

STILL, I AGREE WITH THE PORN PLAN.

Totally! Dean is all about the strategizing and avoiding being turned into a Bratz doll. STILL THOUGH, MY HEART. D:

I HOPE CASTIEL DIDN'T HEAR IT WITH HIS LITTLE PLASTIC EARS, THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING.

I was very D: D: when Dean denied Cas being his friend, but then he did make up for it later, so.

You're right about Dean being very shallow in this episode, and I'll probably agree later when I get over the far jokes. Apparently I am also nine.

P.S. From all the recent episode stills in good lighting, I'd say the tie hasn't changed. Or maybe he just has more than one.

I'm usually nine, too—I recently wrote a fic that contained an extended poo joke. Did I get mature all of a sudden last night? Was the alcohol forcing me to be over 21? WTF?

Maybe Castiel keeps his spare ties in his pockets with Dean's whoopee cushion? I wonder what else he has in there? Since it's Blatantly Rip Off Neil Gaiman Week, Cas' coat is becoming more and more like the Marquis de Carabas' in my mind. Cas, have you checked for God IN YOUR COAT?

FYI, I think I enjoyed your recap at least 14 times more than the episode itself. :)

Cas, have you checked for God IN YOUR COAT?

This made me laugh harder than anything else.

I thought it was fun, but I'm rereading Good Omens and on the part where everything Adam believes is coming true and wow, that episode was passing derivative and straight into rip-off (or, to give the writers the benefit of the doubt, an enormous coincidence.)

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
SRSLY. And honestly, I can't believe they haven't read GO. Kripke has listed as two of his major influences Sandman and American Gods, so.

At least my icon continues to be relevant. ;-)

Hee! I grinned at that bit in the character list. And also "Crowley had been an angel, once. He hadn't meant to fall. He'd just hung out with the wrong people."

Don't despair! I really don't think the writers will break the show. I have more faith in them than that. Although, if they then do forget to give Castiel an actual storyline, I will be more disappointed than ever because of said faith. Ahem.

I didn't love it but I didn't hate it like I did last week's episode. It was a waste of Castiel and I hate how he was all blink and you'll miss him but clearly, CLEARLY the show is bound and determined to redeem Sam and make him all perfect again so in order to stay happy I've decided to just go with the flow.

I did hate it that Dean was such a wienie as to say Cas wasn't his friend but he was clearly lying since he came back and said he was his buddy (which is a step on the way to friendship at least).

I don't feel these writers that much either but I was really miserable and sad with my show last week so I'm deliberately looking for the good. And I'm thinking I really need to go read this Good Omens book.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Everyone needs to read Good Omens! Especially Dean and Sam and Cas, apparently, because it'd probably give them some good tips on how to handle their current situation. *g*

I'm wondering when the show is going to break down and actually CREDIT Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I mean, they're blatantly cribbing from them at this point...

Yeah, I wasn't happy with the way Dean was written this episode, though I have to say I almost died laughing when Cas sat on the whoopee cushion. What can I say, I have the sense of humor of a 9 year old...

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They better have at least sent Gaiman and Pratchett a fruit basket, that's all I'm saying.

I think I would have enjoyed that joke a lot—in the context of a different episode. Too much was making me cranky here for me to really appreciate it. Maybe I can just rewatch selected scenes at some future point?
