I'll never learn.

Hi, remember me? I'm the girl who yesterday almost broke the backs of two strong young women schlepping books to the post office, and was then charged 219 euro to ship said books. And yet, when I saw that it was going to be impossible to get into the Trinity shop for a while because the place is cluttered up with tourists, what did I do? I went to my favorite used bookshop (the one near Sheppard's Hairdressing), and I bought books.

*facepalm*

In fairness, I only got The Secret History because everyone has been recommending it to me, and How Many Miles to Babylon? because [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve recommended it to me. And I was very good and didn't snag the nice, cheap copies of The Alexandria Quartet (because I think my mom has it) or The Ambassadors (because I think I have it). I was totally reasonable, really!

*headdesk*

But I'm going to read them on the plane, so that makes it okay. Yes.

*eats ploughmans, thus accomplishing No. 9 on list*

And then, once you crammed as much as possible in handluggage you try to make look lighter than it is, and paid the over-weight-suitcase fine and enter the duty free area, lo and behold there are more bookstores.

And probably an HMV. With DVDs on sale.

But luckily, someone will pick you up upon arrival.

*hasn't unlocked her list coz much less fun than yours*

Luckily, airport stores don't hold the same lure for me. The day they start putting used bookstores in airports...then I'm in trouble.

But luckily, someone will pick you up upon arrival.

I know (thank God!) that he's not reading this, but thank you, Dad!

*hasn't unlocked her list coz much less fun than yours*

You could add some totally fake items among the real ones! That'd give it an air of wacky fun!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_inbetween_/ 2006-06-01 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
True. In the last years, I didn't find anything either (I already had ST:TNG and the bookstores are rubbish).

Actually, the list sounded funky enough, but since I didn't get anything done it was too depressing.
I could strike half of them through right from the start to pretend. Like you and your croissants.

Should you still be here, I thought you left tonight!! o.0

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
We should always put "eat croissants" at the top of our lists, so at least one item can be easily accomplished!

No, I don't leave until tomorrow morning. Today is my last full day.

or go to sleep?

I had a lovely walk in the park in Merrion Square. *sniff* Ireland had to give me an insanely sunny and perfect day to remember it by, didn't it?

I'll never forget! Earlier I packed a flyer from the Boom Boom Room...

The word for you may just be 'incorrigible.'

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There are many words for me. That is but one of them!

I can only attempt at a description after in-depth use of a thesaurus!

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm complicated like that!

BTW, have you seen how productive I've been? All I have left to do is go eat dinner and fiddle with my iPod. How are things going for you?
siria: (art - bad days)

[personal profile] siria 2006-06-01 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You are fantastically productive! I am very proud. :)

I, personally, am ready to cry with frustration. My mam is making this huge fuss out of the whole thing, which I didn't want, which I have always stated that I didn't want, and is telling me that I'm ungrateful and bad mannered for not wanting this. I knew it was impossible for me to have a birthday which went well.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I still hopefully maintain that you are getting all your bad birthdays out of the way early, so that pretty soon, all the rest of them will be wonderful. Maybe?
siria: (firefly - zoe and mal)

[personal profile] siria 2006-06-01 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I certainly hope so. Because as fun as getting a headache from crying is, I'd really like to think that it's time for a change.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Has it really been that bad? God, I'm so sorry. Parents. "They fuck you up..."

I'm from Los Angeles. And I love L.A. totally unironically! *g*

The lawyer we used for the house, his name was John Sheppard

That's awesome. Hmm...the AU where John becomes a lawyer and runs into Julian Lodge... *eg*

*points and laughs*

You know, I think most people underestimate the problems that a book addiction can cause. Many a time I've thought of starting up a Bookaholics Anonymous, but then I figured it'd just devolve into a book discussion group, which would totally defeat the purpose.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
A reading group would be nice, though. The one thing I'm really going to miss about college is that occasionally, the better tutorials turn into really good book discussions. I've been thinking about asking to join my mom's book group...but that would be just painfully lame, wouldn't it?

*giggles*

I *so* feel your pain there. Books are really, really evil like that.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm doomed to be crushed under a bookshelf. It'd be kinda fitting.

I just hope I'll be able to make it up to Berkeley sooner rather than later!

The Secret History is nice. And has some slashy action. Some. Her other one is crap, the one with the picture of a doll on front.

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Slashy action is good! And anyway, I've had the book recommended to me so many times, I'm pretty much dying of curiosity at this point.

[identity profile] sanitylapse.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
But I'm going to read them on the plane, so that makes it okay.

That *totally* makes it okay. They're cary-on, they don't count!

ZOMG! I don't have a books icon! Must go fix!

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Right! Carry-on! Of course! *cough*

I used to have a really cool book icon from The Neverending Story, but now I just have this one. They look like they could be reading, anyway!

[identity profile] damson.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, How Many Miles To Babylon? is a very good rec. Heartbreaking and wonderful, and to be honest I like it far too much for a book I was forced to read a bazillion times over for the leaving cert. ;)

Also! Sheppard's Hairdressing?! :makes note to look at her city more closely when next she does a round of the second-hand bookshops:

[identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Siria said it was pretty much the best thing she had to read for the leaving cert. And so far there's been lots of naked swimming, so it gets my vote of approval for that!

Sheppard's Hairdressing is on Wicklow Street. Just around the corner from Weir & Sons. *g*

[identity profile] laceymcbain.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)

And that sounds like the basis for an AU if I ever heard one! *G*

Well, my father always said I was more dangerous in a bookstore than in a jewelery store... so I can relate.
