3.Whatever: "Tao of Rodney"

Um. OMGRODNEYSQUEE. I...I lack coherency? My voice is going to remain permanently high-pitched for the next four hours? This was totally worth getting up an hour early to see before work even though I had to stay late yesterday and probably will have to again today? Because Rodney is just...a force of good in the universe? Frequently, literally?

And maybe I should stop ending everything with a question mark?

Anyway. I loved this episode. If you love Rodney, I think it would be hard not to be *flailflailflail* about this episode. (Although, for God's sake, writers, you are giving me body issues by constantly going on and on about his supposed chub. Can't we save that for the bad fanfic, please?)

Actually, speaking of fanfic...are they just basically filming fic plots now? Can we look forward to amnesia soon? Gay sex?

That may have been my one beef with the episode, in fact: that the last minute alternate solution deprived of us possible amnesia (maybe they're saving it?) and definite nakedness. *pout*

Okay, I'm going to try for some real analytical thoughts (Ha!) about the various characters and how they interacted with our man of the hour.

Radek: I love completely and entirely, and he can mutter at me in Czech anytime. He really is, as Rodney said, a remarkably good person, and yes Rodney (and everyone) should be less snippy to him, although I also think he's not, y'know, a helpless victim. Radek can take care of himself!

Carson: I don't really get Rodney and Carson's friendship/animosity/whatever, mostly because I don't think the writers do either. So, um...well, Paul McGillion looked especially fit in that grey top this week, didn't he?

Teyla: SO CRIMINALLY UNDERUSED MY GOD. I'd give an arm and a leg for a good Teyla arc. I'd throw in a kidney if Rodney and Teyla could have some prolonged interaction.

Ronon: I ADORED Ronon in this ep. I've loved all the con reports about David and Jason paling around, and I think that's definitely coming through. YAY. Big Ronon hugs are definitely for yay. And god, that scene about Ronon's scars...that was so well handled, even subtly handled. That might have been my favorite moment in the ep. You know, aside from all the other ones.

(Although I do have to say, Ronon totally thought Rodney was going to ask something else at the beginning of that scene. He was considering saying yes, too.)

Elizabeth: I mostly liked. She was concerned and proactive. Don't know why she felt the need to go back on the "We love you," thing—it was pretty clear that Rodney was joking and doesn't think there's any kind of serious thing between them. Romantic chemistry, they do not have. (Which is kind of too bad, because I'd be on board for some Rodney/Elizabeth if there were even the smallest sparks. I basically want Rodney to have sex with everybody.)

Lorne: Hi! It's so great to finally see you again! How have you...no, wait, come back!

John: Was totally going to kiss Rodney before he passed out. And was wonderfully red-eyed in the infirmary scene with his over-compensating, "Like a friend!" Which was actually nearly a mini-tragedy of missed chances and deserves to have angsty fic written about it. *nods*

Also, did you notice how John was conspicuously absent for the whole section where Rodney was actively reading minds? Draw your own conclusions.

As for Rodney himself...the last vestiges of coherency leave me again. I love him, and I love him especially when he's excited and animated—which he was a lot in this ep—and when he's brave and tragic—which he was a lot, too. And God, he was beautiful. Really, just...gorgeous. *projects thoughts Atlantis-ward* YES, HOT. YOU, RODNEY!

So, um, yeah. Stripped of anything else to say, I suggest using the rest of this space for a Rodney McKay squee-fest. Y'know: honk if you love Hewlett?

Rodney was astonishingly beautiful. Fluffy hair and fluffy eyelashes, lying on the floor in Sheppard's room, pretty, pretty arms, pretty blue eyes, vulnerable nape of his neck--the man is positively edible, and don't try and tell me that Sheppard wasn't thinking exactly that the entire time.

And John's broken voice as they stood around watching Rodney did not make me go all sniffly, nope, not one bit.

And I love when he's giddy, because his whole face lights up. And I love that he got to be confident (for a while) in this ep, because Rodney/David's whole bearing changes, and it's amazing to watch. A little of the Rod creeping in.

And yes, you know John was secretly going through the most intense emotional roller coaster and we just barely got to see it, but it was undeniably there and just...*sigh* We should get good fic out of this! It makes me want to start reading and writing again!

Nah, John was around for a little bit of the mind reading thing, but I think Rodney was too focused on the "I'M GONNA DIE?!" thing at the time.

And your right. I think it is actually physically impossible to love Rodney more at this point. I just can't do it! I am full up of it. If I loved him more I would break. I did nothing but capslock scream last night. There. . . it. . . I. . . . oh god, this episode is like. . . omg.

I think if John had hugged Rodney I would have actually fainted from too much love.

Also, I agree, there is just a John!Angst fic lurking under this episode about missed chances and such. Actually, yeah, this is just a fanfic, a wonderful fanfic that cut out the John/Rodney sex scene to put it on television or something.

I agree with everything you wrote. I'd kill too to see more of Teyla and Rodney together. I love Ronon/Rodney. The love between Elizabeth and Rodney is undeniable, on both sides, but you're right in thinking there is nothing sexual in that love. They admire and respect each other. And Rodney passing out on John's bed, John's arms around him kind of killed me dead.

I love him so much I can hardly contain it. I might spontaneously combust from McKay love. A few weeks ago, I was afraid that my love for him might fade, but I am becoming more and more convinced that ours is a permanent love. It's been going strong for two and a half years now and it's so strong it might even survive if he broke the OTP into pieces in canon (heavens forbid).

OH MY GOD. I JUST WATCHED THIS AND I HAVE NO WORDS FOR THE LOVE.

And, dude. The air-quotes with the "relieve his burden" scene? And then Elizabeth suggesting - nay, ordering - that John help him with it? THIS SHOW IS TEH GAY AND I LOVE IT.

I am PMSy, which is totally my excuse for tearing up at the Rodney healing Ronon's scars scene. Beautifully acted all around, and so sweet - there's totally a bond between Ronon and Rodney that can't be broken, and I feel like Rodney has finally pulled equal with John and Teyla in Ronon's mind as Family To Be Protected At All Costs.

And the fic-based plot! Holy shit. HOLY SHIT. I love this show so much I have no words. I cannot wait for Peg2 when I can worship teh Hewlett and whoever else shows up for this amazing episode.

I would have to say that next to Mckay and Mrs. Miller this is the best episode of the season... hell, maybe better - best episode ever?

Let's face it, we always knew that Rodney used that hostility of his to keep people at arms length, because he didn't want to get hurt.

And, YES Rodney is HOT!!! Finally, SOMEONE in Atlantis semi-verbally acknowledges it!! ... I'll bet most of his scientists have a crush on his brain.

Some lovely Radek/Rodney moments in this episode... more than Rodney/John (though with them there are always endless possibilities). Got some pretty good Rodney/Carson moments in their too.

And yeah... Radek is such an abused character... especially by Rodney... we should have some sort of campaign or something to stop Radek Abuse (it's a rare species!!)... and Shirt OFF!! :D YAYNESS!! ... yeah, I have no life.
