Okay, so I find myself in DESPERATE* NEED** of the following songs:

1. Further On Up the Road — Johnny Cash***
2. Take On Me — a-ha
3. A Well Respected Man — The Kinks
4. Ramble On — Led Zeppelin
5. Travelling Riverside Blues — Led Zeppelin****
6. Don't You Forget About Me — Simple Minds

Can any of you help me out? I'll give you a couple of songs I think you'll like in exchange!

Danke!

*For certain definitions of "desperate."
**Also for certain definitions of "need."
***A song that is awesome, albeit ungrammatically.
****The Robert Johnson version would be awesome also.

So a while back, I wrote and [livejournal.com profile] wychwood illustrated a story called Four Quarters, in which John, Rodney, Teyla, and Ford (and later, Ronon) are in a band called The Puddlejumpers.

Obviously, a band AU needs a music mix to go along with it.

But there are also many more stories to be told in this universe, so a simple mix grew instead into a companion story, with the songs woven into the narrative (or perhaps more accurately, the narrative woven around the songs). [livejournal.com profile] wychwood made beautiful liner notes and formatted the whole thing.

And here it is.

Title: The Best of The Puddlejumpers: Bootleg Edition
Words: [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone
Pictures: [livejournal.com profile] wychwood
Rating: R
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Category: AU
Summary: And I felt like a star/I felt the world could go far/If they listened to what I said.
A/N: Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan, who provided two of the songs and inspired the whole thing with her terrific [livejournal.com profile] artword.

The Best of The Puddlejumpers: Bootleg Edition

Please comment if you download. We'd love to hear your thoughts on any aspect of this project.

I should also note that this story is posted on my website. "You have a website?" one might reasonably enquire. Yes, I do—thanks to the wonderfully generous [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo, who donated the space, and the talented and patient [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve, who designed it. I, however, am both a procrastinator and a perfectionist, and I haven't yet publicized it because I haven't been able to get it fully updated (or write a non-lame introduction). But don't let that deter you: check it out here, compliment Isis and Siria on their kindness and hard work, and then bug me to get off my ass and finish it already.

And when you're done: rock out.

ETA: I just want to make clear that tons of people have made amazing art for various stories of mine, and I love it all. However, only a small portion of that art (like only a small portion of my stories) is up on the site right now. If something isn't there yet, it doesn't mean that I don't like it--quite the opposite! It just means that I haven't uploaded it yet. I'm sorry; I suck.

Here is something very cool: [livejournal.com profile] nenar has asked me to make a couple of mixes for her wedding in September! I love making mixes, and I'm honored to be asked to do one for such an important occasion. However, I started playing around with it last night, and I'm beginning to worry that I don't have the world's most wedding-appropriate music collection.

For example, some things I have discovered:

1. Just because I happen to think that Half-Gifts is the most romantic song ever does not mean that it, nor any song that contains the lyric, "This relationship cannot sustain itself," is appropriate for a wedding.

2. Neither is Beast of Burden, you weirdo.

3. The Cher version of Walking in Memphis is probably NOT sexy and romantic to anyone who wasn't a huge fan of The X-Files, and a big Mulder/Scully 'shipper to boot.

4. Has The Flamingos' I Only Have Eyes For You ever been anything other than creepy? Is it bad that I still want to use it?

5. At Last is not about dead people. This makes it more appropriate for use, not less.

6. I can totally get away with including Temptation, but yes, I will be the only one giggling to myself and picturing Joe's dork!dance.

And the big one:

7. MY MUSIC MAY BE GOOD, BUT YOU CAN'T DANCE TO IT.

So I need your help with that. What are some good wedding songs--that you can dance to? If you can YSI or sendspace or megaupload them, that would be great, but if not, even just names would be helpful. I want this mix to be good. ('Cause poor [livejournal.com profile] nenar--if she's reading this, she's probably really nervous now.)

Tangentially: if anyone has Kate Bush's Aerial that they want to upload for me, that'd be totally awesome. In exchange I have...well, a lot of music totally inappropriate for weddings. *guilty grin*

ETA: DAMN YOU, [livejournal.com profile] spazatron! Now I can't stop listening to Wuthering Heights! I want to put it on [livejournal.com profile] nenar's mix! The whole wedding party can do THE DANCE.

This is in no way related to the above.

Today I:

1. Went to my 9 a.m. tutorial on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and almost strangled a guy who first went off on a LENGTHY tangent about some nonsensical "post-colonial" reading of the text ("See, the narrative doesn't exist until Alice arrives--she imposes it on the citizens of Wonderland!" Right. That imperialist, seven-year-old bitch) and then told me it was "utterly pointless" for me to suggest that possibly, this was not what Carroll had intended. Sometimes I really hate English majors.

2. Wrote a draft of my history paper. It makes no sense and it's four words short (after dinner: add adjectives!) but do I care? No. My inner Hermione is rather peeved at me, but honestly, I could not give a shit. *loves the delightful doneness of being done*

I'm utterly exhausted now--I feel like a deflated balloon--but in the interest of being mildly celebratory, here is some music for y'all:

I promised [livejournal.com profile] smittywing more Mirah.

Sweepstakes Prize (That's the one I already gave you, right?)
Cold, Cold Water ([livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana, this song totally reminds me of that Stephen Crane poem you gave me for a prompt. Must write that fic!)
Special Death (This one's totally my Teyla song.)
Advisory Committee
Dreamboat
Don't Die in Me
100 Knives
Engine Heart (And these last three are all major McKay/Sheppard songs to me.)

[livejournal.com profile] custardpringle said, "Milla Jovovich does music?" Yes, she does! Here are three of my favorites.

It's Your Life | 2nd link
Don't Fade Away
Satellite of Love

(She wrote the first two herself; the third is, obviously, a Velvet Underground cover.)

Finally, here is something cool I got off [livejournal.com profile] audiography today. I think it's an interesting Atlantis or John-and-Atlantis song.

Big Science - Laurie Anderson

Enjoy! And, um, write more porn! I'm going to go pass out now...

Wait, except first: GIP! Extremely enthusiastic GIP! [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve is the best friend ever, and you should all shower her with porn and chocolate. *nods*

ETA: My favorite RL story of the day.

Sweep!

Dude, even Google has a crush on Canada:

This has been your giggle of oddness for the day. Now I'm back to the library. This essay is going to be the U.S.S. Make Shit Up of history papers, I swear.

I always get nervous when I see author’s notes to the effect of, “Based on a song by [insert band here, the more emo the better].” I will be the first to admit that this is entirely hypocritical and unfair, as I have based at least three SGA stories on U2 songs, and just spent all afternoon working on one based on “The Ocean.” I realized that I could go through my (extensive) U2 catalogue and come up with cracked story ideas based on a bunch of songs in no time at all. So (since I don’t have anything better to do, like, I don't know, write the essay I'm supposed to be working on) I decided to do just that.

17 songs, 17 stories that will never be (although with the amount of crack I'm smoking, you never know) )

Now watch me actually go and write one of these, because I am honestly THAT INSANE.
