I suspect they believe they're using it not as meaning "homosexual" but as "metrosexual". Aka: has taste. Because men who are into cars should always like Ford F-150's (or something else grotesquely overcompensatory for suburban males). And to that idea, I would say, guess who actually spends the most money on cars? That would be those corporate bigwigs who dress in Gucci and wear Armani shades and you might not want to piss them off.
