Thank god for Dean's dorkiness, seriously. I finally figured out on rewatch what bothered me so much about young!Dean in "After School Special"—it wasn't that he looked wrong, really, but that he was played so straight (er, not in the heterosexual sense), with none of the offbeat goofiness Jensen brings to the role. And that is just not my Dean. No.
YES! This EXACTLY. Dean being a goofball and a dork is one of the major things that makes me a Deangirl, I think - yes, he's this strong, brave, selfless, smoking-hot dude who kicks ass and saves the day and cries pretty tears...but then he makes bad jokes and Star Wars references. Lots of them. I LOVE THAT, okay. Now that I think about it, Sam's usual seriousness is one of the things that makes me prefer Dean - I always find myself warming more to Sam in episodes where he's laughing and smiling, and not just rolling his eyes and making a bitchface in response to Dean's shenanigans. (See: Hell House, Sam's deadpan "There's no such thing as unicorns?" in Houses of the Holy, etc.)
