A Place Called Home
Jul. 17th, 2006 09:49 amSo I'm all moved into my new apartment, and by "all moved in" I mean, "there's still a bunch of crap at my parents' house, like all my dishes." But all the furniture's there, and even though I SO CLEARLY need another bookcase, my room is really starting to look like...my room. It's nice.
I have two roommates. Cool Roommate wants to be a costume designer here in H-Wood. She seems to have a really great sense of humor and, to further prove how cool Cool Roommate is, she asked me if I had seen the new Atlantis yet. Based on nothing more than my having asked if they got the SciFi channel when I was looking at the place. (I have priorities, dammit!) So that? Very cool.
My other roommate is Absent Roommate because she is almost never there; in fact, she hasn't been there at all since I moved in. This is great, except she's the one who decorated the place--the living room, the eating area, all the shared space--and she has horrible taste. There's an ugly green couch, some hideous lamps, a coffee table that looks like it was made out of a mutant pig-crocodile creature, and nothing on the walls. At the very least, I want to put up some art (and Cool Roommate showed me that she had a beautiful framed print in her closet) but Absent Roommate is apparently very reluctant to change anything. I will have to hone my powers of persuasion!
But the apartment has a dishwasher. A dishwasher. Do you know how long it has been since I have had a dishwasher? Six years. My parents don't even have a dishwasher.
Also, walking to work took even less time than I thought--only about 15 minutes. And aside from the heat, the walk was great. The neighborhood has a fabulous Good Ugly L.A. feel, with a wonderful combination of funky buildings and beautiful trees. And then BANG. Crazy Mormon temple. I have to take some pictures.
I also thought I'd maybe start sharing the songs I listen to on the way in, if that is of interest to anybody. Today's were:
Temptation - New Order
a.k.a., the JF Dork Dance song
Dr. Who on Holiday - Dean Gray
Really cool mash-up. I love the George W. Bush/Dalek comparison at the beginning.
I also heard "Seconds" by U2, but the only copy I have of that is password protected, darn it.
Finally, since
zabbers was wondering about starting a West Coast chat thing for new SGA episodes, I thought I'd ask: Which of you SGA folk are on the West Coast? And for my own selfish purposes, Are any of you in the L.A. area? I'm thinking of trying to start weekly watching parties at my new place. Anybody interested?
