You know, I went to a Thanksgiving dinner when I was in Belgium. It was hosted by Mimi, who was from Florida, and her host family, and she reluctantly invited we non-american foreigners at the last minute. She cooked a turkey herself, for the first time, and I think it was okay, but her host mother put celery in the mashed potato "to make it more interesting", and the apple pie was from a french company and thus not right, and, and....
At the time I had no idea what it was all about and why they were all so miserable about it - after all, even Christmas away didn't bother me much, mostly (I suspect) because it was too damn cold. :) Of course, I understand better now why you all get so upset about missing it, but I will never, ever be able to eat candied yams or even pumpkin pie...
*hugs* If it helps even remotely, things will only be different this year, and next year you will be at home telling witty anecdotes about what those foolish Brits gave you for Thanksgiving dinner. :)
Also, good roast potatoes rock my world. I am jealous. :)
