I don't remember if I commented this before or not, but. I read it when it first came out came out, and I loved it, but then I was thinking about it this morning, and I began to suspect that I hadn't appreciated it enough when you first posted it.
Because it does what really good science fiction is supposed to do: it literalizes a cultural or social dilemma via a technological metaphor, and in doing so, says something profound about human compassion. And second, it does what really good fanfic is supposed to do: it literalizes a theme from popular culture via a sexual or romantic metaphor. And it does these things with grace.
And then also it's really sweet and hot and beautiful, so that helps.
and anyway, I couldn't remember if I was smart enough to say this when you first posted it, but this fic's been gnawing at my brain for a couple of weeks and I just wanted to stop by and say so. I love it a lot.
