So I'm all moved into my new apartment, and by "all moved in" I mean, "there's still a bunch of crap at my parents' house, like all my dishes." But all the furniture's there, and even though I SO CLEARLY need another bookcase, my room is really starting to look like...my room. It's nice.

I have two roommates. Cool Roommate wants to be a costume designer here in H-Wood. She seems to have a really great sense of humor and, to further prove how cool Cool Roommate is, she asked me if I had seen the new Atlantis yet. Based on nothing more than my having asked if they got the SciFi channel when I was looking at the place. (I have priorities, dammit!) So that? Very cool.

My other roommate is Absent Roommate because she is almost never there; in fact, she hasn't been there at all since I moved in. This is great, except she's the one who decorated the place--the living room, the eating area, all the shared space--and she has horrible taste. There's an ugly green couch, some hideous lamps, a coffee table that looks like it was made out of a mutant pig-crocodile creature, and nothing on the walls. At the very least, I want to put up some art (and Cool Roommate showed me that she had a beautiful framed print in her closet) but Absent Roommate is apparently very reluctant to change anything. I will have to hone my powers of persuasion!

But the apartment has a dishwasher. A dishwasher. Do you know how long it has been since I have had a dishwasher? Six years. My parents don't even have a dishwasher.

Also, walking to work took even less time than I thought--only about 15 minutes. And aside from the heat, the walk was great. The neighborhood has a fabulous Good Ugly L.A. feel, with a wonderful combination of funky buildings and beautiful trees. And then BANG. Crazy Mormon temple. I have to take some pictures.

I also thought I'd maybe start sharing the songs I listen to on the way in, if that is of interest to anybody. Today's were:

Temptation - New Order
a.k.a., the JF Dork Dance song

Dr. Who on Holiday - Dean Gray
Really cool mash-up. I love the George W. Bush/Dalek comparison at the beginning.

I also heard "Seconds" by U2, but the only copy I have of that is password protected, darn it.

Finally, since [livejournal.com profile] zabbers was wondering about starting a West Coast chat thing for new SGA episodes, I thought I'd ask: Which of you SGA folk are on the West Coast? And for my own selfish purposes, Are any of you in the L.A. area? I'm thinking of trying to start weekly watching parties at my new place. Anybody interested?

Your parents don't have a dishwasher?! That is so amazingly horrifying!

Also, with absent roomate, you guys now have the power of majority. And BWAH! I live next door to a crazy mormon temple too! It's like living next door to Cinderella's castle!

Anyway, I live in northern San Diego, which is not really close enough for viewing parties, but close in general.

Have you heard the whole Dean Gray "album"? I adore "Boulevard of Broken Songs" but several of them are quite good.

Thanks for sharing your music! I don't own a radio, so I never hear anything to know if its any good. I love when people recomend stuff, otherwise I buy/download movie/tv soundtracks because they are the only music I listen to daily and know I will like.

No dishwasher and NO DISPOSAL. How do they live? *g*

Yes, power of majority--that's exactly what I was thinking. Except the balance of power is upset somewhat by the fact that Cool Roommate and I are actually subletting from Absent Roommate, which is part of the reason the rent's so cheap. So I'm not really sure what we're allowed to do.

Your crazy Moron temple is like Cinderella's castle? Mine looks like a Goa'uld stronghold. It's creepy--in a totally awesome way!

San Diego is probably too far to make a crazy Friday night commute, but we should try to get together some time. *she says, not owning a car* It'd be fun!

Is it weird that I don't really trust dishwashers? Like, I don't really understand how they work and how they actually get everything clean, and I didn't have one in my flat last year so now that I have one in my apartment here I don't ever use it, and just end up handwashing the dishes I use.

Cool Roommate sounds very cool, though. And at least Absent Roommate is absent - considering her horrible taste, it's probably for the best. She's probably got bad taste in music as well, and if she were around you might have to listen to it. Do you know why she's absent?

Hee. Those wacky, wacky Mormons.

Yeah, if you're subletting, you're probably just going to have to suck it up and make your room look really cool.

There should totally be some hanging out! And yes, my Mormon temple is awesome looking in the Disney kind of way.. Plus, they had some land they weren't using and gave it to my circle of apt complexes to use as a dog park. They make for good neighbors.

Like most technology, I don't care how it works. It's so shiny! In some cases, literally!

Or perhaps it is made of tubes? *g*

Bad music GAH. Yeah, that would suck. But Cool Roommate has lots of fantasy books in her room and she likes SciFi Friday. I'm sold. Now to convince her that our bathroom would rather retire her flowered nightlight and instead adopt my glowing Virgin Mary one...

(Actually, I think I'll probably just let that one go.)

And seriously, Eliza, this temple has to be seen to be believed. Pictures tomorrow, dammit!

Well, thank you for inflicting your taste on me, I really like both songs. I listen to music so infrequently that my little brother has been 'borrowing' my cd player for the past year, since I got it, and I didn't miss it till I discovered Dr Who audio books read by Tennant.

Well, there's certainly a lot of room to walk in L.A.--no one ever does! Seriously, I am one of Los Angeles' only pedestrians. It makes me feel very special.

But I love it here. *lures some more*

Joy Division and New Order are both fabulous. (I have a Joy Division shirt that I adore, and as an added bonus, it always gets me a lot of attention from boys who are very eager to stare at my chest while having deeply sincere conversations about Ian Curtis.) If you ever want to do a New Order song post, I would be very interested--I have some, but not nearly enough, of their stuff.

Heh. Most of the time I don't care how it works either. It's just that with dishwashers, because I don't understand it I don't actually think it'll be able to do what it says it will do.

Cool Roommate sounds awesome. And maybe if Cool Roommate pressured her into the Virgin Mary nightlight as well...? Cause that sounds awesome.

Well, I've been to the gigantic Mormon tabernacle in Salt Lake City. (I sang there with a choir when I was 10...) And that was freaky as hell. So I'm pretty sure I could believe it. But I look forward to pictures!

As of right now, I live in Orange County, although in 2 months, I'll be moving to Santa Barbara.

Also, to share the Mormon temple love, there's a GORGEOUS one just down the street in Newport Beach. I toured it when they finished building it, when it was open for people to see. Seriously, so pretty. My old high school also shared a parking lot with a mormon church and we always had banquets and stuff there.

Congrats on the new place. I think I know where you're talking about, actually, my mom and I went and looked at an apartment by that temple a few years ago when my family was moving. In my head, and this may or may not actually be the case, you're in walking distance to Century City and Westwood Village/UCLA, although I have a vague sense that both of those can't be true, and it may be more likley that neither is. Either way, not a bad place to be at all.

Glad to hear you got moved in okay.

**But the apartment has a dishwasher. A dishwasher.**

About a year after my husband and I got married I was washing a glass and it just shattered in my hand. I nearly cut my finger off. So now I can live without A/C or high speed internet but I must have a dishwasher. I call mine 'pretty boy' and praise it alot when no one else is in the room. *blushes*

If you weren't a couple thousand miles away I would invite you and Cool Roommate over and let you loose in my storage barn. I have all sorts of furniture and stuff in there.
