Eeeeeeeee. Yes! Now that is a team episode! THAT is a team! Everyone was so awesome in this. Weren't they awesome? Yesh.

Now, I saw this last night when I was totally burnt out, so I'm probably going to completely forget much of what I wanted to say, but in brief:

1. Ronon and Rodney training together! Or really, Rodney training at all! That was a piece of fanon that I wanted to be true, but didn't think actually was. And it is! (Okay, really I had fantasies of him training with Teyla, but this makes that more plausible, I think.) Man, with this and 'The Game, a.k.a. John and Rodney really do hang out together ALL THE TIME' they're really all about the wish fulfillment this season, aren't they?

Also, I love the fact that Rodney is a yellow belt. When I took karate (shut. up.) that's as far as I got, too! WE'RE LIKE SOUL-BONDED AND STUFF.

2. I liked the continuity from 'Inferno,' but I'm sad there was no mention of Norina, the lady Rodney had a crush on and John...pretended to have a crush on. (Cockblocker!) Especially after everyone was revealed to be dead, I would have liked to at least have a word for her. Too much to expect, I know...

3. "I really hate those things" is getting to be almost a catch phrase for John. He said it, what, twice in this episode? I do think that Joe's flat delivery is very amusing on that.

4. Alien! Oh, man. That cracked me up. Especially because when John said, "Well, some of them survived" you know he was thinking, "I am TOTALLY Ripley." I bet you John had a huge crush on her and attempted to use this as evidence of his heterosexuality. *pets John* I'm also surprised John and Rodney haven't already discussed the Alien movies at length. You know they're just the type to have arguments over whether Alien or Aliens is better. (Rodney: Alien. John: Aliens. Although I think that secretly, they each prefer the other.)

5. Dude, Ronon got to make a speech! And it was a good speech! Man, I love him more and more all the time. I think, like Rachel Luttrell, Jason Momoa is doing a lot with very little. (The "Actually, I was going to say blow it up, but your plan's better" line—So. Much. Love!)

6. Possibly my favorite moment was when Rodney tells Ronon to aim at the belly, and it's smart, good advice, and Ronon listens, and Ronon saves Rodney's life. Teamwork! Bliss.

7. I also loved the little bits of conversation Rodney and Teyla were allowed to have. First, Rodney agreed with her plan! (Possibly just because he was scared, but it was the best plan at that time, so.) And then they discussed morality! Teyla complimented him! She also got to be sarcastic, and Rodney recognized it (eventually)! I am FULL OF YAY.

8. I do wish Teyla's conversation with Michael had been a little more illuminating...or really, that they'd acknowledge that there was some sort of something there, that their relationship was very different from Michael's with John or Michael's with Carson or Michael's with whoever. However, I like that they're finally really acknowledging how fucked up the whole retrovirus thing was. And yet...I think they wussed out a little bit. At first, I thought Michael had actually turned Norina's people into those bug creatures, and that is genuinely terrifying to me. It's also closer to being equivalent to what the Lanteans did to Michael and the other Wraith. In comparison, Michael's plan of killing people and using their DNA to genetically modify Iratus bugs seems kind of tame.

9. The show down between John and Michael...dude, was John supposed to be the scarier one in that match up? Yikes. He seemed seriously imbalanced/psychotic/like a Replicant. And yet he's also the guy making the dorky Alien references. I LOVE that. I mean, it's kind of disturbing in that I don't think TPTB have any idea of the mixed messages they're sending, but for us, for giving us the opportunity to spin the text however we want, it's awesome.

10. John's hot shirt of hotness returns! Yay!

11. I liked Teyla's black top. Her people look well!

12. Rodney continues to look hotter and hotter with each passing episode. How is that even possible? But just...the line of his jaw, his skin tone in this... Yow.

[/shallow]

13. I don't really have anything to say about the Elizabeth parts, except this: Torri, you seem like you'd be a lovely person to go shopping with, so please don't take this the wrong way. You are playing an American. Believe it or not, there is such a thing as an American accent—yes, even if you're not from the South! And when you say "sorry" in such an incredibly, distinctly Canadian way, you are not doing an American accent. You are doing a Canadian accent. And unless Elizabeth has been spending way more time with Rodney than we thought (Hmm. Is this evidence of a secret McKay/Weir affair?), there is no way that she would say "sorry" like that. I know it's a little thing. But, well...it's a little thing. One word. Please get it right.

14. Poor Chuck!Tech. He finally gets to deliver a good batch of lines, and it's all lies. Lies, I tell you!

But never mind all that. My real point remains: I love my team. And they were such a good team in this. I am filled with OT4 love. Only not in that way. (Although maybe I could be persuaded.)

ETA: And how could I forget? Rodney's line about not knowing how the Wraith breed! John's "eww" reaction! I take this to be CONCRETE PROOF that everything I posed in 'Missionary Position' was 100% CORRECT! *nodnodnod*

WOULD THEY BE CALLED CANADI-LOSIAN, PERHAPS? OR MAYBE ATHOS-ADIAN?

Teyla/Rodney has blind-sided me by becoming my SGA het OTP, and it's all [livejournal.com profile] shusu's fault, and she's waiting until things air on SciFi, AND IT'S KILLING ME THAT I CAN'T TELL HER ABOUT THIS.

(Also, in case anyone's wondering, it seems to me that calling people 'dear' is, like, a Canadianism? We (read: in the city where I live - not necessarily representative of all of Canada) call people that all the time: strangers, friends, pets, whatever. We're very familiar with people, it seems to me. This may cheapen the Rodney/Teyla thrill, but it's something I've been pondering, especially given the other illicit bit of Canadiana Rodney spouted (PARTICIPACTION FTW!), so, yeah. Um?)

To be fair, I imagine he would call any woman "my dear" in that patronizing manner if he felt she was his inferior.

That does not diminish the squee, oh no, it does not.

Oh, I didn't really hear it as being patronizing, exactly. Maybe I need to watch it again - I could have been listening with my het goggles...I mean headphones, on. :D

(but you know what, I say it to let people down easier - it takes the edge off of any criticism I give someone. it was frequently employed in my retail job, used on underlings, bosses, and customers alike)

Well, patronizing in a familiar way. I mean, when I use it it's--as you said--to ameliorate criticism or a hard truth about the world. However, even though I only use it with genuine affection it still coming from a position of superiority, you know?

Hm, perhaps that's the difference - I use it all the time, even with strangers. I speculated that this may be a Canadian thing, but it might be a regional thing. People do it all the time around here, and so the connotation of Rodney's comment was slightly different for me.

Also, I should really watch it again. *eyes torrent*

For the record? I'm Canadian. So I have to disagree that it's all Canadians. I remember being surprised when I was a kid when our new English neighbour called me "dear" out of the blue.

Not a general thing where I'm from.

LOL, I just checked your profile and it lists you being in Australia, but the fact that you're Canadian doesn't surprise me, as I have a habit of unintentionally offending people. *facepalm*

Where I'm from, if you get jostled on the bus, for instance, you'll likely hear: "I'm sorry, dear!" if it is an older (older being 30 and up, I don't know what else to call it) man or woman speaking to a woman of any age. I hear it a lot, being a woman and also a frequent bus rider. :D

May I ask where you're from?

Oh, I'm not offended (although the crack about over-30s being "older".... ;-))

Anyway, I grew up in Niagara, but have lived in other parts of Ontario and in BC. I've also been out of Canada now (mostly) for nearly ten years now, so maybe it's a new thing?

I don't know if it's a new thing, but it may be a French thing that's worked it's way into common usage? My city (Winnipeg) has lots of French-Canadian people, lots of French culture. My grandma is French! A whole quarter of my family is French!! Our city's 'French quarter' used to be its own city (until Winnipeg grew into and absorbed it, or so I hear)!!!!

I also grew up very close to the French neighbourhood, so this could TOTALLY BE THE EXPLANATION. My city is very culturally French, and it seems to me that my French family is also ridiculously free with their affections (my great aunt? kissed me on the lips once. this didn't even phase me until I realized I *wasn't actually sure it was my aunt*).

Aaaand I've just conferred with my roommate and she thinks it's a French affectation that's been absorbed into our culture. *nods* LOUIS RIEL, FTW!!
