Yikes! Not only did we just have a 5.8, I got to experience it from a high-rise building, which has never happened to me before. (However, for the second time in my life, I was on the toilet when the quake hit—is the universe trying to tell me something?) It was very strange—we're on rollers, so it was more like being on a turbulent ship than the usual shaky stuff. It's really only my hands that are shaky.

Angelenos: are you all okay? [livejournal.com profile] akukorax, [livejournal.com profile] ebrooklynw, I've been trying to call, but my cell is dead.

I'm going to take some deep breaths and keep trying to get ahold of my mom...

ETA: Oh god, I just realized—my apartment! There were dishes left out on the rack, and DVDs piled high behind the GLASS-DOORED armoire... And of course, books everywhere...ack. And I have to wait five hours to go home. :(

ETA2: I've gotten ahold of my mom, my aunt, and several friends, and I'm feeling much better. Now I just want my brother, who's out filming in Big Bear, to get over his technology aversion and check-in...

ETA3: How nice is Rodney McKay to check in from another galaxy, just because Sheppard is worried?

Rollers! Duuuude! That's actually kind of cool. (thinking about your apt: not as cool.)

Since the 'tubes are working, you can email someone who can phone your mom, even if phones are out (or overloaded) down there. And I'd stay off the phone lines, anyway, because emergency peoples are going to be needing them.

Yeah, I'm trying to use the interwebs to my advantage—I've emailed everyone, including my folks. Haven't heard back yet, but I'm sure that's just because going online isn't their first instinct, as it is mine. ;-)

Why is no one picking up their landline? Why does no one seem to *have* a landline any more, it's not as if the cell phone network will be anywhere near robust enough to carry emergency level traffic unt--okay, fine, Sam's glaring at me, apparently I'm not allowed to waste a $6000 a minute connection on an entirely warranted critique of the California telecommunications systems. You are okay, right? Not that I was worried or anything, but John may have been... wondering.

You shrugged, leaned, rubbed at your stubble and suggested that maybe, you know, it might be a good idea to check in. Or whatever. Which for you, is practically the heights of logorrhea and emotional demonstrativeness.

Is this the face of someone who was freaking out? Are these the palms of someone who has admittedly been occasionally known to develop a mild case of hyperhidrosis during an emergency? I think not!

You knocked over your coffee cup and didn't blame it on anyone else, five minutes ago. You're freaked.

Not that I'm complaining. Now we know Trin's okay, I'm looking forward to some post-adrenaline-spike . . . fun times.

I'm wriggling in my chair, Sheppard, because there's something distinctly unerotic about knowing you've had sex with a man who would compare my prostate with a block.

Fair point. I think I can safely say, based on experience, that the only thing you regularly repress is your gag reflex.

Now, see, that is exactly it. I have often considered myself a model of good behaviour, an exemplar, if you will.

Sam and Sheppard are laughing at me right now. I swear, it's like working with the Chucklehead Twins.

Fingers crossed for all your stuff (I had similar panic whilst camping in high winds - though mine was about my stuff flying away instead) and glad you're okay!

And it is awfully nice of Rodney to check in like that, completely out of the goodness of his heart, of course, for Sheppard and not at all because he was worried too.

I'm glad you're okay!

I've never done the "earthquake in a high-rise" before, either, so it was quite the experience.

It's really weird to have an adrenaline spike in the middle of the work day. I'm having a hard time focusing, thus the LJ-ing. :)
