SPN: 'Lucifer Rising'

Things what are awesome:
1. Cas! Cas Cas Cas Caaaaaaaaaaas. That played out just as I could have wished. They drew out the tension really well, and Dean and Cas did their WE STARE AT EACH OTHER A LOT TO SHOW WE ARE MANLY/ANGELIC AND DON'T EXPRESS OUR EMOTIONS BUT REALLY IT MAKES IT SEEM LIKE WE ARE IN LOVE thing and Cas pushed Dean up against the wall and painted the symbols in HIS OWN BLOOD (okay, Jimmy's) and just—YES. Thank you. Yes.
Now let's totally have the season where they're all on the run from the guys upstairs and downstairs and it's Angels & Demons vs. Team Humanity. And hey, mad props to everyone who realized it was the Good Omens storyline. IT TOTALLY IS.
2. Dean. Dean in the green room. Breaking the statuary and generally being an ass. I love you.
3. Bobby: "You're a better man than your father ever was." JESUS CHRIST THANK YOU.
4. Chuck! Who isn't touched by an angel, he touches them.
5. The story I finished a draft of today? Totally not Jossed, hurrah!
6. I have cherry pie. COME ON THAT IS TOTALLY RELEVANT. Kinda.
Things that make me sadface:
1. Ruby. I may be in the minority, but I really liked Ruby. And I loved the idea of the story where she really wants the best thing for Sam, but because of her nature or because of outside factors conspiring against her, it gets all fucked up anyway. The story where she makes all the wrong decisions, but for the right reasons. Isn't that wonderful and tragic? But, you know, with a possibility of redemption at the end? AND ALSO MAYBE IT COULD HAVE BEEN A WAY TO HAVE A FEMALE CHARACTER ON THE SHOW WHO DOESN'T DIE OR DISAPPEAR OR GO EVIL (OR ALL THREE)? JUST MAYBE?
*deep breath* Okay, let it go, Trin. But ANYWAY, now I really do need to write the story where Mary comes back and kicks a lot of ass and fixes everything, because SERIOUSLY. COME ON.
[/mild feminist rage]
And also now I do not think I will be able to write the sequel to Quarters that I kind of had an idea for. An idea and a really funny joke about Barry Manilow! Damn you, Kripke.
2. That other story that I wrote a couple weeks ago but never got around to editing/posting? THAT one got totally Jossed. Damn again. *shakes fist*
Things what were meh:
1. The actual ending. I feel like they could have given us something a little more exciting that an underworld light show. I've probably watched too much Buffy, because I feel like the bigger the laser intro, the smaller the main event. With that as the last shot, part of my brain is kind of expecting the opening scene of the season 5 premiere to go like this:
Bright light erupts from the depths of hell. SAM and DEAN brace themselves for what's to come. CASTIEL and CHUCK arrive, but it's too late! LUCIFER emerges!
Pull back to reveal that Lucifer is the size of a Ken doll.
Sam: This is Lucifer?
Dean: Big overture. Liiittle show.
Lucifer (squeaky voiced): I am the dark lord of nightmares! The bringer of terror! Tremble before me. Fear me!
Chuck: He – he’s so cute!
Lucifer: Tremble!
Dean (mocking): Who’s a little Lucifer? Come on! Who’s a little adversary!
Castiel: Don’t taunt the angel of the bottomless pit.
Dean: Why, can he hurt me?
Castiel: No, it’s just – tacky.
And SCENE.
And, okay, I wanted something that was an awesome jumping off point for epic summer fic. This really wasn't it.
Not that that'll stop us or anything. ;-)
Questions:
1. So was Anna killed, or just captured? I hope it's just the latter. We need one awesome female character still on the show for christsake.
2. There are going to be more consequences for Sam, right? I mean, all love to Sammy, but dude deserves more consequences.
3. So the whole "Castiel puts the whammy on Dean" thing was just a teaser red herring! Does that mean Dean's pledge was really just nonbinding and symbolic? Man, Heaven can be just as lame and impotent as the U.S. Senate. I kind of still hope there's more to it than that.
4. Dean and Castiel want to make out so bad, don't they?
That last one was rhetorical.
So, in conclusion: that was not as awesome as the rest of the season has been in general, but when it came to the storyline that meant the most to me, they delivered. Cas! Dean! Caaaaaaaaaas! *heart*
So I'm just going to sit here eating my pie and picturing them making out in my head and that's basically my plan until September. Who's with me?

Yeah, it's like taunting a small, excitable dog. It's just too easy, and kind of sad.
And in re: Question #4, I know it's rhetorical, but I will answer it anyway.
Yes. Yes they do. SO BAD.

Ruby --> I liked evil, but I didn't want her to die. D:
Your interpretation of the opening scene for S5 ---> LMFAO
Don't think Anna's Dead, maybe reprogramed?
I'm hoping for conswquences -- actually that he's Lucifers host.
No Dean's oath only applied to certian angels. (self pimping because I'm lame) (http://kira-bouviea.livejournal.com/48426.html#cutid1) Dean only really swore himself to Castiel and God (and that's optional)
Dean and Castiel are married Truefax y/y?
You have pie? Lucky duck.
Jumps on bandwagon. Right On!

I really wish "Quarters" hadn't been Jossed, though; that fic was what got me to mainline the entirety of season 4 and I'd love to see the sequel.
Also now I'm picturing Cas and Giles meeting and it's kind of fantastic.

Now, I must return to my Dean/Castiel fangirl squeeing and send my sincere thanks to Kripke for all those awesome D/C scenes :D ---->

Date: 2009-05-15 02:03 pm (UTC)BLOOD
Did anyone else think that they were going to attempt a sense of symmetry and have Cas feed Dean his blood? There was 10 seconds of "OH HECK NO!"
followed by "YAY CAS FINGERPAINTING ON THE WALL"
Dean knocking the statue over just because was awesome. Such a good character moment.
I actually miss blonde!Ruby. Season 4 Ruby is mostly there as a
drug dealersource of demon blood for Sam seemingly. Best onscreen time was possibly in the eps with Anna. Blonde!Rubyhad more sass and kick-ass.
Am in total agreement over the ending. It was just sort of blah after a season that has rocked the boat again and again. Although...the Cas and Dean moments almost make up for it. Cas, I'll go for a walk with you and fighting archangels for Dean (or the fate of humanity, but mostly Dean)
I would like more Anna, especially if they put her to good use, not just random pop-up book Anna.
It's good to see Sam's had some sense knocked into him (*sings* finally), but yeah, more consequences for the stupid of demon-blood drinking definitely. (It seems to equate to supernatural steroids and I'm pretty sure Sam would have been "No way, no how" to everyday steroids). But oh pretty please not
Lucifer!Sam.
*flails*
Epic fic will be the only thing to tide me over (and keep me from trying that 4 month sleep) until season 5
*fingers crossed* I have no idea why this won't post properly.

Date: 2009-05-15 11:13 pm (UTC)didn't Dean promise2obey God and His angels? cuz, u know, if the angels (aka Zacharia) admit they don't take their orders from their boss, that'd cancel the 'contract' right there :D

Date: 2009-05-16 01:16 am (UTC)It's all about Cas. He was absolutely fantastic, and I'm on pins and needles wondering what happened between Cas and the archangel. *bites nails*
Dean was his usual amazing self. He's been just awesome this season, and my heart has broken for Dean and everything he's gone through. And his guilty look when Cas caught him breaking the angel statue? Priceless.
Everyone needs their own Bobby, because he's just awesome. And I agree, it's about time somebody told Dean that he's a better man then John.
I was disappointed with the Ruby storyline, but also kinda impressed with Kripke for keeping me on the fence about her so long. He made me want to trust her, but I couldn't quite get there. The fact that I couldn't have said she was actually evil until the last couple eps when she smirked non-stop was kinda skillful on his part.
I wasn't too disappointed with the ending, because I feel like I can actually survive until the start of season 5. Things were wrapped up, like where Cas' loyalty lies, but there are still a lot of questions. It left me pondering and sane :)
Sam has done nothing but annoy me this season with his self-righteous, "you don't understand" bullcrap, and he totally needs to face the consequences. I think Dean will forgive Sam, because it's in his nature where Sam is concerned. That being said, he's not going to forget what Sam did, and the forgiveness will not be easy. Dean's going to hurt, withdraw, lash out, and rub Sam's face in it when he gets pissed off. But he will forgive - he has to.
And yes, Dean and Castiel completely want to make out. I think your plan for this summer is a good one. I'll be doing the same, just without pie.

Date: 2009-05-16 04:24 pm (UTC)Anyway, about Ruby.
AND ALSO MAYBE IT COULD HAVE BEEN A WAY TO HAVE A FEMALE CHARACTER ON THE SHOW WHO DOESN'T DIE OR DISAPPEAR OR GO EVIL (OR ALL THREE)? JUST MAYBE?
I agree with this very much. We still have Anna, but I just kinda hoped that Ruby would've been on the good side. Or at least on Sam's side, or hell (pun not inteded :D), maybe she thought she was. Meaning she clearly wanted Sam to be rewarded, not cast aside as someone who's done their duty. Maybe she loved him in her twisted little demonic way.
season where they're all on the run from the guys upstairs and downstairs and it's Angels & Demons vs. Team Humanity.
Hmm.. my first thought was that Castiel will fall. That that'll be his punishment for helping Dean.
Man, I need a SPN icon.
