Hi, I'm alive! In fact, [livejournal.com profile] aesc and I are currently in the process of conquering New England. She just posted a collection of (much, much prettier) pictures, but of course I need to share my own unique take on the experience. So here are an obscene amount of photographs of wild animals, nature being grotesquely pretty, and yes, a mummy.

Photobucket
Our first stop in Boston was the New England Aquarium. These salmon are judging me for having eaten so many of their brethren.

Photobucket
George Washington thinks he's better than you.

Photobucket
Squirrel.

Photobucket Photobucket
Spooky abandoned building in Boston vs. spooky abandoned fort in New Hampshire.

Photobucket
Weird.

Photobucket
[livejournal.com profile] aesc and...a multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent?

Photobucket
This is what happens when you take your fashion cues from Michael Jackson, because I nearly moonwalked off this cliff.

Photobucket Photobucket
This fish is just sleeping, right?

Photobucket
God wants you to make weird piles of stones.

Photobucket
We were in Portland when this guy ran up to me, shouted, "You really do exist!" and insisted I take a picture with him.

Photobucket Photobucket
We visited the town where I grew up, which has a big waterfall at its center.

Photobucket
Such a pretty river...
Photobucket
...But don't swim in it.

Photobucket
"To Trin, it was always the tomato bisque."

Photobucket Photobucket
This trestle bridge was a shortcut home from school. It always scared me to cross it. My knees would lock and I'd feel like I was about to tumble into the water.
Photobucket Photobucket
I thought I'd triumph over this fear by crossing it now, as "an adult." But nope! Still as terrifying as ever!

Photobucket
This Ten Commandments sign used to greet me every morning on the way to school. Downer.

Photobucket
Too bad about the nightcrawlers, too.

[HIGH SCHOOL NOT PICTURED.]

Photobucket
What's with this Wicker Man shit? These were across the street from the cemetery and were much, much creepier.

Photobucket
"Are they now not together for a blissful eternity?" Why are you asking us? We didn't know them very well or anything.

Photobucket
Bummer.

Photobucket
Double bummer.

Photobucket
The town I grew up in gave a mummy a "proper Christian burial" because we're classy like that.

Photobucket
God is angry because you lined your stones up instead of making weird piles out of them.

Photobucket Photobucket
Oh, fuck you, Nature. Seriously. Just stop.
Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket Photobucket
Show off.

Photobucket Photobucket
And then Nature's all like, "Whatever dude. You're gonna die, and I'm going to erode your gravestones till they just look like rocks, then eat your precious little cemetery with my ridiculously pretty trees. I win again, chumps!"

Photobucket
Okay, Nature. You win...for now.

Actually, nature's totally cheating by giving me awful allergies. But I will defeat them! For there are more adventures to be had tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Aw, VT, NH, and MA! I miss them so much! Your photos look fabulous and the commentary was pretty awesome too :D

Hope the rest of the trip treats you well. If you're still in VT, you should totally hit up Ben and Jerry's ;)

It's totally amazing to be back! Before this I hadn't been in New England (except NYC) for ten years.

We've sadly left VT, but I've been to the B&J's factory many times before so I don't feel too deprived. ;-)

As a native nutmegger/geography nerd, I feel obligated to point out NYC isn't New England (Northeast, yes. New England, no)

:)

Glad you've experienced the glory of B&Js (and I just realized how key the "&" is in that abbreviation...)

I blame any and all geography mistakes on allergies/living in California for ten years/the fact that I am terrible at geography. :)

Yeah, RL conspired against me. I hope sometime in the future it'll be nicer because I'd love to hang out again!

Your weird pile of stones (and further comments on gravestones vs. nature) evoked Andy Goldsworthy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Goldsworthy) - was that intentional? If not, you would really enjoy his work, especially his film Rivers and Tides (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0307385/). Meanwhile - thank you for sharing!! These are amazing!

What awesome pictures :)

But your weird pile of stones looks like an Inukshuk to me! You should totally think of it as due South fandom trying to get in on your trip :)
