Oddities

Walking back from Marks & Spencer (I know, I know, but I am lazy and their prepared meals are good) I saw a couple of window-dressers deep in (to me) silent, pantomime conversation. One of them was gesturing emphatically with a severed mannequin arm. She actually tapped her companion with it, on the shoulder, like she was knighting him. I never get to knight people with severed mannequin arms. *pouts*

Also, I seem to be writing Rodney/Teyla fic. I blame it on [livejournal.com profile] monanotlisa's icon. Just, if I start writing sentences about "dusky nipples" or "tawny thighs"*--shoot me? Please?

Oh, who am I kidding? I'm totally having fun with it. It's completely improbable, which is why it's so awesome. And it's reminding me why I miss the Jossverse, because while the Stargate people seem (from what I've seen/heard/randomly gleaned) rather conservative with their couplings, Buffy would have totally gone there. It would have gone anywhere. Well, shy of full-out boy-lovin', but still. Happy times.

ETA: And speaking of fic, for those who might have missed it, I (semi-)recently posted a couple of stories over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic.

For the Buildings and Food Challenge: Coming Soon to a Galaxy Near You!

For the Debriefing Challenge: Magic Marker

Both McKay/Sheppard, both varying degrees of silly. Because this fandom is crack.

*Much to my shame, this is a phrase I actually use in The Novel. Twice, even, I think. There might also be a mention of "milky thighs" in there somewhere. Not in reference to the same character, though--I'm clichéd, not inconsistent.

Are you talking about [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's fic? Yeah, I read that, too. And liked it. *headdesk*

Okay, new theory. SGA is Will Smith in MIB: whatever it is...it makes it look good.

*returns to contriving to make Rodney & Teyla get it on*

Why am I not doing my homework?

I now have this image of myself turning in a piece of long, porny fic instead of the history essay I'm supposed to write. Hey, it would be much more entertaining.

American history, the Revolutionary War. Yes, I came all the way to Ireland to write a paper on American history. *sigh*

And actually, it seems I can't concentrate on anything for more than ten minutes at a time, even porny fic. Just one of those weeks days...

Wow, thanks so much for reading them! You must've been so confused, though...seriously, I'm quite curious: how hard were they to follow, having never seen the show?

And you should write fic! I know it sounds like a platitude, but you never know how it'll turn out unless you try! Also, dude, writing takes practice. You should see some of my fic from my X-Files days. Um, actually, no you shouldn't. ;-)

I'm curious though, when they destroyed the Starbucks, what did they do with the baristas?

You know, I kept waiting for someone to ask me that, and you're the first person who has! So, two answers for you:

1) They Atlantis crew relocated all the displaced baristas to whatever portion of the city they use to house the refugees they sometimes rescue on the show...and who are of course never seen or referenced again;

or, 2) The baristas were organic just like the rest of the Starbucks(es?), and they withered under the onslaught of not-Agent Orange.

I think I prefer the second theory. *eg*

You know...you should really watch SGA. It's is the most cracktastically awesome show ever, not to mention full of pretty pretty people and slashy to boot. S1 comes out on DVD in November! [/pimp]

yeay! i'm glad to hear you're having a good time!

how is The Novel, by the way? although it sounds like you have a lot else preoccupying you [like stupid history essays ... was never a big fan of those myself].

DEATH TO HISTORY ESSAYS! Grr.

The Novel is kicking my ass. Everyone (er, the three people I showed it to) hated the ending, so I'm trying to rewrite it, and it's NOT COOPERATING. And I keep getting distracted by shiny things: Atlantis fanfic, this other novel I want to start...

Er, how are you?

yeah, funny how these things like to take on a life of their own, in the most annoying sort of ways ... and then you're like, 'should i just let it sit and stew on its own and think about how its being a bad boy, or should i tackle it and figure that with enough will power, something will turn out?' the eternal dilmena ...

i'm doing pretty well =), in beijing on a fulbright studying tibetan-influenced chinese pop music, and was 'kindly' half-scolded by my prof today for not getting my ass into gear fast enough on kicking my research project into full gear ... cuz i've been sort of dragging my feet on this project ... self-motivation is so hard sometimes.

getting used to this city but i think my chinese is still crap.

i'm going to see an ice skating competition saturday! let me tell you, exciting stuff.

i hope you're doing well! i mean, it sounds like you are, but being in a foreign city can definitely have its ups and down ...
