Prezzies!

•Who was the wonderful person who sent me the holiday box? Books and an awesome Sports Night mix--oh my! But there's no note; I want to be able to thank you properly, mystery person! Unless you're trying to maintain secrecy and mystique... *raises eyebrow at you*

•I also got a lovely holiday card from [livejournal.com profile] mciac. APPLE PAN LOVE.

•I keep forgetting to mention this, and y'all may want to exchange it, but I wrote a fic for [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic's Amnesty, the Bloody Challenge: The Hollow Men, McKay/Sheppard, I think the word would be "angsty." *perverse glee*

•Ooh, and [livejournal.com profile] dogeared posted some excellent Johnny Cash tracks. Yays.

I had an fun telephone conversation with [livejournal.com profile] spazatron this morning, even though it must've been about 3 a.m. his time. He's gotten addicted to Veronica Mars, which is all very well and good, except I keep trying to get him into SGA and it just isn't working, dammit. We keep having conversations like this:

Me: Try it! You'll like it!
Him: It just isn't my thing.
Me: *weak, unconvincing argument that usually ends with something like, "And did I mention I love Rodney?"*
Him: I didn't especially care for the two episodes I saw, and besides, I really don't need another fandom.
Me: But...but...the slash! The snark! John's ears! RODNEY MCKAY.
Him: *tolerant--possibly strained--laugh* Maybe I'll try it again eventually.
Me: ...and the first season's on DVD!

I am very frustrated with my inability to convert him--It'd be to his own benefit, I think, honestly! And then I have the occasional moment of self-reflection and I realize: wow. I am scary and annoying. I'm an evangelist, and SGA is my religion. Or really, whatever my current obsession is is my religion, and when I get going, I don't just pimp, I preach it, baby. I just won't let up. I mean, I had a friend in junior high who was--how should I say this?--very, very Christian, and we were good friends, but it was a constant strain on our relationship that every once in a while she would feel the need to draw me aside and say, "Are you sure you don't want to accept Jesus into your heart?" (Then in high school she had a crisis of faith and later she became a heroin addict, but now she's clean and she's getting married this summer, so yay?) I mean, I guess the key difference is that I'm not saying to [livejournal.com profile] spazatron, "IF YOU DON'T ACCEPT RODNEY INTO YOUR HEART, YOU WILL BURN IN HELL!" But, uh. Otherwise I worry that I'm just as obnoxious. It comes from a good place: I just want people to love what I love! But if I look like I'm about to start a crusade, um. Stop me, okay?

In other news, Aidan just asked me if I wanted to go see his band play tomorrow in Temple Bar. (!!!) [livejournal.com profile] jarsy and [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve--do you want to go see the gay cowboys and then go catch Wally's Hut, Aidan's I'm-sure-it's-fabulous (oh please be decent) band? You guys should really meet, anyway. You will BOND.

Now I have to go write amnesiac slave rape fic for [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn. *shakes fist in general direction*

But Rodney should be worshipped! Preferably while on one's knees. Or prostrate. Mmm, prostration. (Shut up, I was raised very traditional Catholic, it's valid)

Tomorrow would be excellent, seeing as I have to toddle back up to Dublin then anyway. I have an overdue library books, so the gay cowboys will be necessary to soothe my soul after facing the wrath that is the library staff. Or, you know, their awesome apathy, whichever. I should be around from early afternoon, so whenever's good for you.

You will BOND.

I have read too much fic to feel anything other than amusement at that statement.

Okay, maybe a little bit of fear.

Holiday box was from me. *g* I thought I had sent a note! Packing place either lost it or shoved it in a book, I gues. *g* Hope you like it. I was going to include a Connie Willis book, but I saw on your interests that you were also a fan, and didn't want to risk doubling a book you had. *g*

Also, the fandom as a religion thing? SO me. My poor friend [livejournal.com profile] nydia_s has gotten dragged in every fandom I've been in for the last 5 years because I convert her. It's amazing she still loves me, really. She was up for the weekend and we watched S1 of SGA. LOL

Oh, Rodney is mocking me so much right now: there was indeed a (very cute!) card shoved inside one of the books. Shoved deep, I shall say in my own defense, but... *facepalm*

Anyway, thank you so so much--it was such a fun surprise, and I'm really looking forward to reading the books--especially the romances, as a little reward once this frickin' paper is out of the way. (Which, eeep, I really ought to be researching right now.) And--hee!--I was listening to the Sports Night mix this morning, and besides there being some genuinely great songs on there, all the Starland Vocal Band jokes are now so much funnier, because dude: they are bad.

*hopes you are not secret SVB fan*

Anyway, yay for Connie Willis! To Say Nothing of the Dog is one of my favorite comfort books. Which one were you talking about, out of curiosity?

And yay for fandom converts! Part of the reason I'm so frustrated with the [livejournal.com profile] spazatron situation is that I was able to convert him to BtVS, and it was one of my GREATEST TRIUMPHS. Why can't I do the same with SGA? *weeps*

I'm glad you like it all! I wasn't sure if you watched SN, but the mix is just a good mix regardless. And personally, I think Afternoon Delight is one of the funniest songs out there. LOL They are indeed terrible and that's half the fun!

To Say Nothing of the Dog is my comfort book, too. I just adore it and her. I was going to send along Impossible Things, one of her short story books. It's another favorite of mine.

What I've learned about converting is that different fandoms take different amounts of time. LOL It took me 6 months to get Nydia into NSYNC, but 15 minutes for Gilmore Girls. It was a year of chatter about West Wing before she tuned in and then she found Sports Night on her own, because I hadn't known a way to get her the source material. LOL So don't give up! It can still happen. ;)

wychwood: G'Kar knows that each voice lost diminishes us (B5 - G'Kar each voice)

Isn't fandom like that most of the time anyway? I mean, my friend [livejournal.com profile] starstuff pimped Babylon 5 at me like WHOA, such that I knew huge amounts of stuff about it, and could quote major speeches, and owned a soundtrack CD, even before I actually ever watched an episode. And then she got it on video and made me watch it, and I fell head-over-heels in love with it, and now I pimp it to other people! This moral tale teaches us that it is good to pimp, and, if at first you don't succeed, to continue pimping. Because it took months to get me to watch B5, and I'm so very glad I did. *g*

Now I have to go write amnesiac slave rape fic for [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn. *shakes fist in general direction*

*watches [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone wave her tiny, tiny fist in a totally ineffectual manner*
Ahaha. You know you want to do it! Have you seen the responses so far? Complete genius.

Have fun with your gay cowboys! And your hopefully-single-and-not-gay Irishman! *g*

Hey there chica. Very sorry they have not arrived yet, but more "prezzies" are on the way. :p

Hope all is well in the land of eyre... erne... eire... (I don't know. Crossworld puzzles always have these weird clues relating to Ireland that mean, "four letter word starting and ending with E and put in an R for good measure.")

Oooh, prezzies! *is unworthly* *but excited*

'Tis Eire. Or Erin. Depending on the, erm, context. Yes.
