Where did all the icons go?

*instant withdrawal*

ETA: Aside from my default, apparently. Bwah?

ETA2: Apparently, it was just my Firefox having a minor nervous breakdown. Everyone's icons disappeared. Spooky! But they're back now. Ignore me.

Er, or better yet: tell me (or send me) your favorite Rodney (gen) song. Or Rodney/John, but from Rodney's POV. I find these are few and far between.

I will send you songs later, because your computer is stupid you can't play the format I have them in. But for the record, one of them will be Carbon Leaf - Life Less Ordinary, which is a John/Rodney song, but IMO definitely Rodney PoV. The link's to the lyrics - see what you think.

I might give you this one, too - still Carbon Leaf, What About Everything. I'm not entirely sure who I think has PoV here, but it's definitely John/Rodney again.

Actually, if you still have those songs I sent you aaaages ago, these might have been included. I have some other SGA gen songs, but they're not Rodney PoV...

Anyway, must now run away, so amusez-vous with other people's songs until I return to rip them :)

What's the song name, though? And the artist? It just comes up as "track 10."

If Games (http://www.bobhillman.net/lyrics.html) by Bob Hillman was a little less slow and a little more goofy, it'd totally be my Rodney song. (Tolstoy (http://www.bobhillman.net/lyrics.html) is my John song, although it could be pressed into service as Rodney/John.)

It's weird--I've got a John/aircraft song, but few Rodney.

Oh, and hi! I've been lurking but figured I may as well just friend you already. Hope that's all right. :)

Oh oh oh! And a song that I desperately want someone to vid: Some Fantastic (http://download.yousendit.com/73093FB0110CF067) by the Barenaked Ladies, which would be all about Rodney transferring his affections from Sam to John, and would probably end with that shot of hallucination!Sam in the door of the puddlejumper, smiling goodbye.

here's just a conglomeration of songs that remind me of my two favorite boys (YSI links)

I've Always Been Crazy (http://download.yousendit.com/B559453B4ED65EAA) by Waylon Jennings. For some reason this song screams John to me.

It Hurts to Love You (http://download.yousendit.com/FFD3E33C290700F9) Philosopher Kings, John/Rodney

My Best Friend (http://download.yousendit.com/15D1DEEA2CC365A5) Weezer, John/Rodney

Where Are You Going (http://download.yousendit.com/82F72C485546718C) Dave Matthews, Rodney all the way

Under Pressure (http://download.yousendit.com/EA534B616D5165EF) The Used and My Chemical Romance, this should be Rodney's theme song as far as I'm concerned

A Case of You (http://download.yousendit.com/887C2A3055145D71) kd lang version, Rodney/John, but from John's POV...I have this whole post-Atlantis story in my head about this song.

ooh, and I forgot one more. this definitely reminds me of Rodney, and Rodney thinking about John

Falling for the First Time (http://download.yousendit.com/7AAF660C2EDC5A51) Barenaked Ladies

and speaking of the Barenaked Ladies, One Week (http://download.yousendit.com/3D52F0E474A12CBA) seems like the perfect description of how a John/Rodney relationship would work. *g*

*grins* Falling for the First Time is a perfect John/Rodney song.

I keep not-making the vid where the lines "anyone perfect must be lying" are paired with shots of chaya, and maybe "anything easy has its cost" with john kissing teyla when he's turning into an Iratus bug.

My favorite Rodney songs? Interesting question, I can't wait to see what other people come up with.

For gen Rodney songs:
Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright. For this one, I have been highly influenced by the 2 excellent SGA vids done to this song. But it really reminds me of Rodney and his faith in science and his own abilities, as well as relationship issues. And I love this song. I really like the Wainwright version, but I also like the ones by Jeff Buckley and kd lang.

Another Train by the Poozies (http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=761A7F402B19FE7A). One of my current favorite songs, since I ran across it via a Daniel SG-1 vid (by barkley I think). I think this song reminds me of Rodney after he was sent to Siberia & before the Atlantis expedition. I think it actually works just as well, if not even better, for Sheppard right before the Atlantis expedition, so I can't help but think of both of them when I hear it. I'd love to see an SGA vid made to this one day.

Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse (http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=B7F507580BE5461A). I find it a bit odd that I think about Rodney with this one, but Rodney changed alot from SG-1 to S2 of SGA, and this reminds me of those changes.

As far as McKay/Sheppard songs, there are two that really remind me of them:
The Scientist by Coldplay. Kind of obvious, I know, but it reminds me of Rodney, especially post-Trinity.

Running Up That Hill (http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=EC545ED42041455D). This vid by Danvers was one of the first SGA vids I ever saw. It addicted me to Placebo, and it really cemented this song as a John/Rodney and SGA song in my head. I always think of this song from Rodney's POV, but I guess it could go either way. I also have multiple versions of this song, and since you've probably heard the one by Placebo already, this cover is by Icon and the Black Roses.

What are *your* favorite Rodney songs?

Hmm. I'm also curious to see what songs people associate with Sheppard as well.

First of all, oh MAN, you have no idea how excited I am about a "Running Up That Hill" cover that I haven't heard before. And I really like it! Yay.

I like the others, too. "Another Train" is beautiful. Thank you!

As for my favorite Rodney songs...hmm. I don't really have any? I mean, I have a ton of Sheppard songs (I've been trying to make a mix for ages, actually), and so, so many McKay/Sheppard songs. But they're almost always from Sheppard's POV. His angst brings the music to the yard. Or something.

I'm going to think more about this, and maybe eventually I'll do a post. But I want to give you something, so here's a song that almost works, if you change the gender pronouns:

The Ground Beneath Her Feet - U2 (http://s44.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0MOU4VIZ4RK5V3BN1N6FS7RJE8)

Rodney playing Orpheus for John, something I never tire of. *g*

Thank you. I actually hadn't heard this U2 song before. I've listened to it a couple of times, and it does work for Rodney and John. I have to admit, though, when I listen to it I actually think Rodney & Atlantis (or is that Rodney/Atlantis) in the first part of the song and then Rodney/John, which lends an interesting dimension to it. Maybe I'm just odd *g*.

Also, did you see the vid Stress (http://wickedwords.livejournal.com/384374.html) by Rache and Sandy? I had never heard that song either before I saw the vid, but now it will always be a Rodney song to me. It's a funny and brilliant vid.

English Summer Rain (http://download.yousendit.com/C246E6C317F9BD4A) by Placebo. I'm not entirely sure why, except that there's this line "I'm in the basement, you're in the sky" and that made me first think it, and then it's all "nothing ever changes" and "fall apart and then start again" and it just seems very much Rodney/John, the Wraith never stop coming, all we have is each other... kind of something. Or. Something. My songs don't always fit very obviously. LOL.

this song makes me think of Rodney circa SG-1. From this perspective, Rodney's contempt for others and desire to get to Atlantis make a lot of sense. Danny Michel - Souvenir (http://download.yousendit.com/81F7E2B70A2E2859").

And there's this other song that always gets into my head when I read those john/rodney fics set during their shore leave on earth - it's the plot to a fic somewhere in my brain: Martina Sorbara - Bonnie and Clyde (http://download.yousendit.com/F5DBC13B69763EBD).

Ooh, good question! I hadn't really thought about this before - I have way more RayK/Fraser songs, actually - but I think Chuck E's In Love (http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=A91B431A755F860C) by Rickie Lee Jones is a great McShep song, from either POV.
