I think though, that they don't have much choice in the matter - saying Season 3 Spoiler as a link in that situation doesn't really work, with a newsletter they need to specify a little. At least they haven't identified which episode it is, right?

They could have said "casting spoiler"!

At least they haven't identified which episode it is, right?

True. But I am (occasionally) not stupid, and now I suspect I'll figure out that "oh, this is the episode with x" much sooner that I would have liked.

Besides, it's the principle of the thing. *g*

I agree. There were several other articles on the newsletter whose links were "first couple of words..." to avoid spoilers.

And I was so looking forward to being -surprised- this summer, even if I guessed that it was a sure thing. *sulky cry*

LOL That would be amusing.

Meanwhile, I left them a comment asking about the spoiling policies and if it was possible to be more vague in the future. I'm usually a total spoiler whore, so this is all new territory for me, but I've gotten to the point where I don't want spoilers for shows I am enjoying. I'm currently spoiler-free for a whopping two shows, and they aren't making it any easier for me. LOL

See, I wasn't quite with you on the last spoiler post you made, b/c I really don't think the fact that there *is* gonna be backstory is much of a spoiler (or the fact that Sheppard had a father :-), but this one's definitely moving into clear spoiler territory...

I personally have no spoiler concerns but usually try to be careful around those that do (within reason...like I won't post spoilery icons within a few days of the ep, but like months later? or i'll reference spoilers of older shows, b/c I think it's almost impossible to be in fandom and not know...but not of shows still in production, etc.)

(no subject)

Date: 2006-04-22 10:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] trinityofone.livejournal.com
I totally made up the thing about Sheppard's father (as it says in the footnote of that post). That was my (not so) clever, euphemistic way of talking about this spoiler.

I understand little spoilers, and things like icons, starting to slip out after an episode has aired (I'm always desperately eager to use my new icons right away, and have to restrain myself). But NOTHING HAS AIRED YET. It's a spoiler for EVERYONE. I... *flails* *takes calming breaths*

Anyway, this one is certainly irrelevant now; I just hope it doesn't keep happening.

*headdesk* i didn't get that :-)

well, to me the fact that there's an ep about her and the casting are definite spoilers, yes...

and yes, this is a larger issue than just this instance, and i think everyone needs to find their own comfortzone (and unfrioend those that are too offensive to theirs!)

[of course then there's the entire fflist issue and...i think it's incredibly hard these days to be in fandom and remain spoiler free...

*pets trinityofone*

i do think that communities could try to avoid spoiling; it's a bit differnt with personal LJs after all.

but the spoiler thing *is* incredibly fraught and difficult to decide. is the above icon a spoiler? would the kiss be?

i was bitched out a while back, b/c i spoke of harem!john in a story before the cut-tag (not referencing an ep or anything) before the tower had aired in the US...

i remember a big kerfuffle a couple of years back, b/c someone used a chloe icon the summer after she'd been supposedly killed...the image was from the new season but that was (a) not clear and (b) still didn't mean that she was still alive (flashback ep or whatever could have put her in the ep)

...i think everyone has their own pain threshhold...unless tou're like me and have no spoiler issues at all...which makes life around here much easier :D

Heh. I remember hearing a big to-do about someone announcing an actor's new project and the spoilerphobic complaining that the news spoiled them about him not returning to another show as a regular. There was much snarking about tuning in for Season 8 of Buffy due to not having been spoiled for the show's cancellation.

No, actually, I hate being spoilered. Even though I sometimes spoiler myself voluntarily doesn't mean that others can spoiler me without giving me the choice, right? Ironically, while I don't mind casting spoilers that much (though they can suck majorly, when you a characters returns who was dead or something like that... destroys the whol element of surprise :() I am usually only spoilered about really important things by 'accident' (and by 'accident' I mean banners and icons *g*)... like, when characters are dying or kissing. *grumbles*

I had been trying to stay spoiler free. I saw someone else's post about this yesterday. Sort of ticked me off. It would be nice if the spoiler itself at least wouldn't be put in the actual title of the post, wouldn't it?

So far I've had more luck in the Buffy fandom in staying spoiler free than I have in this one!

Sorry it was directed at you. 'Cause, as I said above (to [livejournal.com profile] aurora_84, I think): I love you guys.
