Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kuwdora for bringing this to my attention.

Stephen Colbert is my hero. Last night, he gave this amazing, brave speech at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He excoriated Bush and most of Washington--it's breath-taking. I, admittedly, have not seen the whole thing (darn being-in-another-country!) but I read about it here
and I managed to find a clip of the second half of his speech, which I've uploaded so you can see it, too.

Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondents' Dinner (26mb .mov file)

If anyone knows where the full thing might be posted, please, please let me know.

ETA: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aurora_84, the whole thing on YouTube:

Part I
Part II
Part III

ETA2: And now [livejournal.com profile] amireal has the whole thing up on her site here.

I don't really have any deep political thoughts to share--I tend to be too emotional, too fucking angry to engage in the reasoned debate these issues deserve. But the thing is, we're not getting any reasoned debate. The only people willing or courageous enough to speak for us are comedians. But watch the clip. I'm both chilled and heartened by the reaction Colbert receives.

Nobody's laughing.

I DLed the clip. Crooks&Liars has only the second half, too (is that where you got your copy?), but I'll keep an eye out for the complete version.

My Dad sent me the clip. That's probably where he got it.

Oh, Stephen. *heart*

The masses were scared! (At least the masses in that room.) They can't handle the truthiness.

God, wasn't he amazing?

A couple of us (okay, 30) from [livejournal.com profile] colbert_report were watching it live last night (thank God from streaming media in my case) and completely freaking out on AIM.

You should have seen the transcripts: 'Burn!' and 'OMG I cannot believe he just said that' and 'wow, nobody's laughing, he's killing them all'. Also, lots of caps.

Jon would be so proud. God, I am *so* proud of Stephen. (We think that's the closest anyone from TDS has come to Bush and he did a fantastic job).

Thank you for the clip!

I'm just in awe. That must have taken such incredible courage, and while he deserves the biggest round of applause imaginable, the silence was incredibly telling.

Thanks for the OneGoodMove link. I can't get Quicktime 7 files to play, but I heard the audio. Oh, Stephen. Wow. WOW.

I just wanted to give him a huge hug after he was done. And you could see he was so nervous, but he went on and yes, incredible. Boy did good!! /understatement.

I found something better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcIRXur61II. This starts at the very beginning of his speech and I think it even overlaps a bit with the part you already have (where he's talking about the media and FOXNews), so you should have the whole thing now.

Oh, awesome! Thank you so much!

And yeah, he was clearly nervous, and he rose above it; it was epic. I...I want to send him a letter or something.

(Parts 2 and 3 are also up on youtube now. You should see them on the right.)

We wanted to send him the chat transcript, but I think we'd freak him out more that encourage him. :)

I don't think I've adored him more than I do right now. This is so Crossfire-esque.

(He would make an awesome dad to the bald eagle they named after him -- have you seen that, btw?)

I saw this! And wow, could I love Stephen Colbert any more than I already do? I mean, I love the show so very, very much, but I didn't realise before I saw this that I could love him more than I do, and to go up there and unabashedly tear apart the president in front of a crowd of journalists who are too scared to laugh is just... wow.

I LIFT A GLASS TO YOU, STEPHEN! (In icon form. Because I do not actually have a glass of anything but water with me at the moment. But it's a very appropriate icon!)

He's incredible. He officially wins at life and politics. And comedy, and courageous journalism. It's amazing.

*awed*

Also, *lacks appropriate icon, so DH's ass will have to do*

I completely missed it. Thankfully, we have the internets! Watched most of it on youtube this morning. Clearly Dubbya has no idea what's going on and the rest of the reports are nervous in their seats. It's sort of sad that we need the comedians to tell the truth in the guise of comedy.
