To Stephen Colbert! *raises glass*

Thanks to
kuwdora for bringing this to my attention.
Stephen Colbert is my hero. Last night, he gave this amazing, brave speech at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He excoriated Bush and most of Washington--it's breath-taking. I, admittedly, have not seen the whole thing (darn being-in-another-country!) but I read about it here
and I managed to find a clip of the second half of his speech, which I've uploaded so you can see it, too.
Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondents' Dinner (26mb .mov file)
If anyone knows where the full thing might be posted, please, please let me know.
ETA: Thanks to
aurora_84, the whole thing on YouTube:
Part I
Part II
Part III
ETA2: And now
amireal has the whole thing up on her site here.
I don't really have any deep political thoughts to share--I tend to be too emotional, too fucking angry to engage in the reasoned debate these issues deserve. But the thing is, we're not getting any reasoned debate. The only people willing or courageous enough to speak for us are comedians. But watch the clip. I'm both chilled and heartened by the reaction Colbert receives.
Nobody's laughing.

Date: 2006-04-30 02:26 pm (UTC)A couple of us (okay, 30) from
You should have seen the transcripts: 'Burn!' and 'OMG I cannot believe he just said that' and 'wow, nobody's laughing, he's killing them all'. Also, lots of caps.
Jon would be so proud. God, I am *so* proud of Stephen. (We think that's the closest anyone from TDS has come to Bush and he did a fantastic job).
Thank you for the clip!

Date: 2006-04-30 03:43 pm (UTC)Thanks for the OneGoodMove link. I can't get Quicktime 7 files to play, but I heard the audio. Oh, Stephen. Wow. WOW.

Date: 2006-04-30 03:47 pm (UTC)I found something better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcIRXur61II. This starts at the very beginning of his speech and I think it even overlaps a bit with the part you already have (where he's talking about the media and FOXNews), so you should have the whole thing now.

Date: 2006-04-30 04:07 pm (UTC)And yeah, he was clearly nervous, and he rose above it; it was epic. I...I want to send him a letter or something.

Date: 2006-04-30 04:13 pm (UTC)We wanted to send him the chat transcript, but I think we'd freak him out more that encourage him. :)
I don't think I've adored him more than I do right now. This is so Crossfire-esque.
(He would make an awesome dad to the bald eagle they named after him -- have you seen that, btw?)
