I just found out that the father of one of my brother's best friends was murdered on Wednesday. This wasn't someone that I knew or had even met, but my brother is incredibly shook up and I am shaken too. I live in a big, and by all accounts dangerous city, but I guess I'm really sheltered because I'm completely shocked by this. That it could happen. He was shot with no apparent motive; I don't even know how to process it.

Anyway. Anyway.

In happier news, I found an apartment. It's in Westwood, kind of near the big scary Mormon temple for those of you who know L.A. (For those of you who don't, I'm going to have to take some pictures because this you need to see.) The place has roommates and I found it off craigslist, but they don't seem psycho and one seems really cool. I move in next weekend; wish me luck.

(Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve: this means you can definitely stay with me when you come to visit in November. Other people can come stay with me, too... *hint hint*)

I'm working on making a masterlist for [livejournal.com profile] reel_sga and that should be up soon. (I will of course add to it when new entries come in, 'cause I know lots of people are still working.) The other mods and I are starting to talk about ways to continue the comm--broadening the time period; other, more specific challenges--so if you have any ideas, please let me know. We'll put up a poll about that maybe next week.

I'm also gonna try to do some meta about stories adapted from films and A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours in particular, but I think I may give more people a chance to read it first. (Assuming it's just the length that's scaring people away... *g*)

*g* And if I ever again have money, California is totally on my list of places-with-friends-to-visit!

Also, I think you should turn [livejournal.com profile] reel_sga into a comm for stories about string. Yes.

Yes. VISIT US.

I really like how Rodney in your icon seems to be responding to your suggestion. *g*

Eep! That really is horrible :S I mean, bad enough that it happened, but that it was motiveless and that it could happen to anyone just because someone feels like it... gah. *clings a bit* You take care, y'hear?

I try to be safe. That is the scary thing, though: the idea that something like this could happen anywhere at any time, for no reason. But you can't go through your life looking over you shoulder...I just don't know.

*hugs*

Yay for you! I am very pleased that you now have a place to call your own :)

And, of course, I'm pleased that I won't be arriving in The Big City and having to sleep in a cardboard box on the roadside somewhere, so it's all good. *thumbs up*

It's really like, "I'm glad Siria no longer has to sleep on my parents' couch" but yeah, a cardboard box would be bad too.

No, instead I have a nifty air mattress that can be fixed up on the floor of my new room! With its ugly, ugly carpeting! (Note to self: buy rugs.)

Well, you know from experience that I don't even require the luxury of a couch. Once the concrete beneath me is not too inflexible, and as long as I don't keep trying to roll under the coffee table in my sleep (ow), I can sleep in any corner of a room in which you see fit to place me! I'm flexible like that. *nods*

So... I am doing this thing in vegas... should I see how feasible it is to base my trip out of LAX?

Mid august. Week after vividcon I beleive.

I had two choices, flying direct into vegas, or fly into LAX and join the peeps driving in. In order not to miss the flight out, I'd prolly fly back here like Wednesday. So there'd be like a night we could meet or something.

Maybe.

Depends on how much more expensive LAX is.

*hugs* I'm sorry about your brother's friend's dad. But I'm happy about you finding a place! When do you move in? Or have you already?

Also, I'm so glad you went with that choice of title. *g* And you just posted it - I'm sure that, like myself, people are so caught up in the World Cup that they're finding it impossible to read fic. Or something. (Or in my case, write fic. I'll get it in soon, dammit! *sigh*) Anyway, I haven't reread through it to see what changes you made, but I can't wait. And meta is always fun.

I'm moving in next weekend, hopefully. I'll be happy is it's just relatively painless, so wish me that!

You were so right about the title. You may also have been right about the Sheppard/John thing, but I didn't change it because I would have had to rework all the times it shifted significantly (I mean, in a way that carried significance), and I am lazy. But if I do a DVD commentary, I will talk about it, and you will be vindicated!

I showed my mom the Italian football players. She liked them. *g*

I had the same shocked feeling when my counsin's body was found outside of Bakersfield. She was beaten to death and left... nothing so purposely malicious had ever happened to me or mine...

*hugs you*

I'd like to see pictures of the scary Mormon Temple... most of them look the same... I want to see one that's scary looking.

Or wait were you implying that the mormons were scary and they have a temple near where you are moving?

Either way... you should watch Latter Days (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345551/)... for cute mormon boy slash/homoerotic storyline... :D I used to be a mormon... but no longer... and a lot of the stuff about them seemed accurate to how I was raised for a time.

*another quick hug*
