I just bought a ticket to Pegasus 2 even though 1) it's in England, 2) it's expensive, and 3) I have no idea if I will be allowed to take time off work. But [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve, [livejournal.com profile] randomeliza, and [livejournal.com profile] megolas are going! And I desperately want to see them, and I really, really miss Europe. Maybe I'm only freaking out about the purchase because I'm not used to really buying myself stuff or spending money not on food. (Or rent. Or, okay, books.)

But:

1. David Hewlett
2. I've never been to a con before!
3. David Hewlett!
4. Friendses!
5. DAVID 'THE AWESOME' HEWLETT!

So...who else is going?

In other news, I went up to Berkeley this weekend and thus am even more out of the loop than normal. What's going on? Did people like 'Progeny'? I'm tired. Can I take a nap now?

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] looking4tarzan started a comm for people going to Pegasus 2: [livejournal.com profile] peg2con. *runs off to join*

I'd love to exchange waves! I've never been to a con before; is there a usual way that meet-ups are arranged?

:D
Wow convirgin? aw David will be popping your con cherry lol
It'll be something like my 7th proper convention (where you stay and there's talks parties and things) and probably my 18th event (including comic cons and such)
lol we'll have to teach you convention dances...apparantly they just aren't done like they are here.
I've just come back from gatecon UK so slightly hyper atm (which explains if I ramble...sleep deprivation)

I don't know how meet ups are arranged. I think last time (p1) some of us on gateworld had badges.
I think the ones I'm often with are hard to miss sometimes! Tho we'll be propping up various people at p2 (they're supporting me at collectormania gmex...coz kavan smith is there WOO)
um I think last time I had contact for beanie and people just kinda found us!
If push comes to shove I'll be one of the people dancing lots LOL.
You're welcome to prod me at the con....its always good fun cons
(I just spent the last one being referred to as Erick Avari's brain! by erick avari!!!!!! it was an um experience....other stuff happened but that was the wierdest!)
oh yeah P1 was where I got straddled by Jason Momoa!
Oh and don't be afriad of con dances...sometimes the stars join in...watching Jason and Rainbow Macarena is FUNNY!
yeah hope I haven't scared you!

Con dances are like wedding dances, but fun. They're easy to pick up line dances. Someone (often the DJ) usually gets it started and teaches the basic steps, then off you go. You don't have to be able to "dance" in order to play - as I can testify.

yeah...all the old favourites!

We were running "classes" in the auto queue yesterday so people could pick em up...that and we just kinda dance to them with or without the music...even in car parks!
Some do take time to pick up but if ya stuck hey...between us someone will know the dance

And if you've drunk enough bitters, it won't matter if you know the dance or not.

Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything. Certainly NOT.

Do they not have a bar? They do have a bar, right? Because...

I mean, not that I'm a lush or anything, but a girl does get a throat on her, dancing, and...

Yeah there's a bar at the Thistle...but it's expensive...so we tend to like buy one or two drinks and then drink contraband in pretense that we bought it there with sneaky stealth skills. I have a handbag I can fit 6 300ml or so bottles in it

LOL yeah dancing...usually leads to me having to lie on the floor to get my breath back.....which was when Jason Momoa straddled me.....oh THAT was an experience...semi drunk and the only thought in my head "my knees are in his crotch!!"

this is why cons are so much fun...random stuff happens!

will you be at p2
closer to the time I may start up a "ARE YOU GOING?" post and put my mug shot up s people know who to avoid jump on lol

Most often with cons now we go to socialise with like minded people...coz sometimes guest lists do change a lot (like sg10 or Gatecon)
I really like meeting up with fans and mcsheppers lol coz we can sit and squee about our fandom and have laughs!

I live in NY now. I actually found the bars in London comperable. So that means expensive, but I'm used to it.

But I'd never thought of sneaking stuff in. That's clever and brilliant. I appreciate the tip!

Usually just via Yahoo groups or LJ or things like that. It seems that people try to meet up the night before the event starts, or on the morning of.

The night before is fun because you can make it a bit of a party, maybe bring some related-DVDs, stuff like that.

For London Expo, we all arranged to meet in the hotel bar between certain hours. We had some drinks and food, then went to one person's hotel room where we (geeks all, yes) watched obscure episodes of television shows that the actors had been in pre-our-fandom. Got to see things like Dominic Keating (Star Trek) in his early twenties doing odd (and bad) British television, then Desmonds, then... we totally geeked out. Next morning, we met on line, went in together, etc. It was great. I highly recommend trying hard to meet up with the people you speak with online.

I probably won't be attending, but I'll keep the idea in the back of my mind. I'll have to be at Oxford for a week August next, and two overseas trips would be pretty expensive and difficult to manage. Still, it is so...very...(DH)...tempting.
