I just bought a ticket to Pegasus 2 even though 1) it's in England, 2) it's expensive, and 3) I have no idea if I will be allowed to take time off work. But [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve, [livejournal.com profile] randomeliza, and [livejournal.com profile] megolas are going! And I desperately want to see them, and I really, really miss Europe. Maybe I'm only freaking out about the purchase because I'm not used to really buying myself stuff or spending money not on food. (Or rent. Or, okay, books.)

But:

1. David Hewlett
2. I've never been to a con before!
3. David Hewlett!
4. Friendses!
5. DAVID 'THE AWESOME' HEWLETT!

So...who else is going?

In other news, I went up to Berkeley this weekend and thus am even more out of the loop than normal. What's going on? Did people like 'Progeny'? I'm tired. Can I take a nap now?

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] looking4tarzan started a comm for people going to Pegasus 2: [livejournal.com profile] peg2con. *runs off to join*

The expense, yes, the expense, but I did a similar trip for London Expo two years ago, and I still feel it was worth it. And when I ran the numbers (I am such the business woman  ) I realised that it was roughly comperable to the cost of attending a Creation Con here in the US, if you include hotel, airfare, cost of entry, cost of autographs, etc. And the cons in Europe are much nicer affairs.

Like you, I was missing Europe, and hadn't been to London proper in some time. I took advantage of the excuse of the event, and made it a bit of a vacation.

Although this is at a hotel near Heathrow, yes? I'd probably stay in-town for the nights when the con isn't on, and only stay at the con hotel during the event itself. That's what I did for Expo. I stayed right in the city centre for the non-con (heh) days, so I'd have easier access to touristy things and etc.

The hotels near Heathrow are nice, but that's a bit far for normal London touristing for any more than a day.

We all definitely want to get some London sight-seeing in when not at the con, and I'm DEFINITELY not staying in some airport hotel when I can be in London proper. So yeah, I agree with your strategy points. *g* Now, if I only I can strategize my way to some cheap airfare...

That's hard. Airfares have been going up lately, and I've also had trouble finding something cheap to London.

I hate to say it, but I think the recent events may help. I'd imagine fewer people will be flying for a bit, so perhaps fares will go back down again?
