How can my life be so surreal, and yet so boring? This morning as I was walking to work, I actually saw a guy applying Axe Body Spray as he strolled down Santa Monica Boulevard; shockingly, it did not make me want to rip off my bra, throw myself on his skinny emo-boy frame, and ravish him. Also, it smelled appallingly like women's perfume—really floral. Okaaaaay...

And now, in an hour, I have to interview Kim Raver, who was Jack Bauer's love interest on 24 (which I keep calling ER in my head, and god, please don't let me do that in the actual interview) and who's now starring in The Nine with my cousin, Tim Daly. And they have, like, UST and stuff. Which I am supposed to ask her about. Which makes me, hmm, just a little uncomfortable? Y'know? And so I am sitting here, listening to Duran Duran and having a panic attack. I hate my life.

Seriously. I already know that the highlight of my day is going to be that there's a new House tonight. There is something very wrong here.

I feel for you on the work trepidation (although mine doesn't involve famous people, thankfully).

also, the body spray. This morning I was standing on the corner of 6th Ave. eating a bagel and some man had so much cologne on I could smell it about ten feet away downwind. It kind of ruined the bagel.

AND NCIS!

Hmm. I think, fandom success always feels weird. Like.. this is what you wrote about and bought magazines about and now I'm sort of kind of living it. Only it's far more exciting on the other end. You're in limbo maybe... keep working and you'll get past that weird block.

Um, yay House? Jesse Spencer is v cute. He and Omar Epps have lots of UST. Why do people not write Foreman/Chase? It's v sad.

You know, I really enjoyed The Nine and am looking forward to it, but buggered if I can remember who Kim Raver was.

Limbo is definitely the word. But I don't feel like there's anything on the other side—I'm not moving toward anything.

And yeah, it was more fun when I was just reading Entertainment Weekly cover-to-cover.

Maybe because you don't beleive it can happen? *shrug* Keep working and just wait for that awesome opportunity. Right now collect business cards, make friends. Write when you get the chance and see what happens, you have a job and an apartment, that's JUST step one. *grin*

I know, I know. But I feel like I'm all-too-easily settling into a holding pattern: too tired when I get home to write, and not working on my novel, and watching a lot of TV and just generally being a waste of space. If I don't make things happen for myself, they're not going to happen at all. But I feel like I don't have any energy or self-discipline any more.

Take an Ami school of thought moment. RELAX and let life lead you around for a bit. Stop worrying. Take a vacation from everything other than the now. Do things for fun, get your work done, SETTLE IN. It's still not that long ago that you got hired. It's like starting a new exercise routine, the whole body has to get used to it. Get those writing muscles that you need for your job flexed and soon you'll find it easier. Suddenly you'll have some extra energy.

Relaxing is sadly something at which I do not excel. I'm too impatient! I'm wasting my life at this stupid job and yes I know I've only been here four months but it feels like an eternity whimper gah.

If I believed that pot would actually calm me down instead of making me a raging paranoid (or make me eat a whole loaf of white bread) I would seriously consider smoking it.

Get a manicure. Find a massage place (You're in freaking LA, there is probably one next door!) settle in and enjoy the fall premieres. Loosen those shoulders. Tell yourself for TWO WHOLE WEEKS you will not fret about the future Ms. Graduated early and is Talking to Someone who is nearly 25 and still working for it. :p

You could look at it this way, I don't know if you have a brother, but it could be him that she has the UST with.

House, I'm looking forward to that too..plus Eureka and Nip/Tuck..we gotta take the highlights where we find 'em. *smile*

I work at Walmart part time (ick! Shudder!) and got a bottle of that stuff sprayed on me when the top broke. That stuf smells nasty. I think the only reason I would rip my clothes off around that stuff is to cover my nose, lol!

Yes, either my brother or my dad would be considerably worse. I only pray that if this show becomes a big hit, there is never any slash written for it.

we gotta take the highlights where we find 'em.

I normally do believe that people should take pleasure from whatever they can, and that definitely includes TV. But I'm so passive in everything I take pleasure from—books, TV, movies, even LJ...and where does that leave me?

I know how you feel. It was like that for me at Nintendo, and I was working some absurd hours. What I eventually started doing was taking a walk after work, hell or high water. This improved my energy level and gave me time to do nothing but think, which helped conjure ideas for my stories. It's positive feedback loops. Keep watching tv, you'll keep not having energy. But start taking walks, not even long walks, and it'll help get your heart beating. Once you get the energy, the self-discipline will be irrelevant...you'll just write.

I once, on a date, had a guy wave a bottle of Axe under my nose and *seriously* ask me if all girls reacted to the smell the same in real life as on tv. He wraggled his eyebrows at me when he asked.

Apparently he was under the impression that it was some sort of female sex drug and there mere mention and sight of the bottle combined with his manliness and the smell of Axe would take the date to the next level.

The next level turned out to be me kicking his ass out the door.

There would be lots of angsty "you are so stupid/you're just jealous that House likes me best/House only likes you because you kiss his ass/House only likes you because he thinks you're a criminal" sex.

Heh. I'm pretty sure that's the exact reaction my brother had to it when they included a sample in his "Welcome to college! Buy commercial crap!" dorm package.

I have never heard of The Nine, but I've always liked Tim Daly. Asking a stranger about television UST with your own cousin is certainly weird though. Just have your notes and try to relax?

You lead an interesting life... :\

Somehow, it always amazes me just how different the lives of people on LJ are--celebrities! I'm stuck at school and bored to death. Sorry I don't have much advice except good luck! (But I suppose it's already done by now, anyway--I hope it went well!)

People are people no matter who they play the part of. TV, however... TV produces actual characters, like House and John and Rodney. Life only exists so that there are enough people to play all of the roles and enough inspiration to make the things that happen in real life seem interesting.

-OR-

Good luck with that UST talk with that actress. Yeah, that works better...

I *knew* there was a reason I wanted to watch that show! Alas, it (and just about every other show in the world that is not an SG) does not fit into my schedule this year. I'm not even watching "House".

But I like Tim. He made a movie about wine buyers several years back that I quite liked and he was very good at being bad in that Whoopi Goldberg movie that I can't remember the name of. (I'm sure you know what stuff he's been in, I was just mentioning a couple of possibly obscure ones that I liked)

So, how did the interview go?

It occurs to me that if the guy was dousing himself in pheromones while walking down Santa Monica Boulevard, you might not be in his target demographic for the jump-and-ravage reaction. ;-) Does Axe make y chromosome-specific scents?
