So..."The Lost Room"?
Dec. 18th, 2006 10:46 amI'm assuming there was discussion of this, which I missed because of my recent "This one goes to 11 (p.m.)" work week, so I hope nobody minds if I just pose this query:
Wha? What the hell happened at the end there? I loved the build up, so the end was totally like a giant balloon deflating for me. Why weren't there any consequences for Joe killing the occupant? Why did any of that actually bring Anna back? How come there was such a stupid non-resolution to the Ruber/Detective Bridgewater plot? Was it just me, or did the guy who played Ruber totally wish he were Gary Oldman? Why wasn't there more Roger Bart, who I enjoyed an insane amount? Are they planning a sequel, or what?
*grumble grumble grouse*
Anyway.

vassilissa brings the awesome. Or the awesomely terrifying, take your pick.

kuwdora brings the other awesome. (Well, she linked to it. *g*) House/Wilson is totally canon, yo! Well, kinda. (Minor S3 spoilers.)

Date: 2006-12-18 06:58 pm (UTC)I said that three times to the people I was watching with and they didn't get it at all.
Wha? What the hell happened at the end there?
I don't know!! And I'm a little miffed, so I'm glad to see others are all *flaily hands* about it, too. I kept watching the clock going, "and they're going to wrap all of this up in how many minutes? I don't think so!"
There better be a sequel. I'm just sayin'. Because I get that you leave the audience with questions, but not feeling like the missed the last three chapters.

Date: 2006-12-18 07:12 pm (UTC)Well, I was shouting it to an empty room, so...
But we are SO right.
Questions are good. But to be all like, "There will be CONSEQUENCES if you do this! Big, scary consequences!" and then not even hint at them...what's with that? Not to mention that Joe is still apparently wanted for murder and kidnapping...WTF?

Date: 2006-12-18 07:16 pm (UTC)Just -- way, way too fast. There should've been an extra ten minutes at least to give some consequences.
Although, I was very happy when we didn't get the Outer Limits/Twighlight Zone ending I was dreading. I didn't need the nightmares.

Date: 2006-12-18 07:30 pm (UTC)Yes, yes, yes—I likewise want answers to all the questions you pose. Because seriously, what's up with there being all this build up to "uh-oh, you are an object now" and then nothing changes?
I was also anticipating/dreading an ending where Joe saves Anna and she doesn't know him anymore, so yeah, I guess we should be thankful that it didn't end like that. Or were you envisioning something WORSE?

Date: 2006-12-18 07:34 pm (UTC)Ooh, you are brilliant! And we don't even have to wait for a series for that!
*tries to decide which characters would be the most fun to fuck with* Supernatural is too obvious, isn't it?

Date: 2006-12-18 07:42 pm (UTC)I think it would be hilarious to xover TLR with shows that Krause's been on before, like Six Feet Under or, GOD, Sports Night. ♥

Date: 2006-12-18 08:16 pm (UTC)The Lost Room/Sports Night would be HILARIOUS. Because the contrast between how Joe was just like "I accept that all this wacky shit is happening" and how Dan and Casey would have to discuss it ENDLESSLY...that would win.

Date: 2006-12-20 01:23 am (UTC)This is what happens when I get going...
I actually got my fiancee to watch it (and the only other SciFi thing he's ever watched was the BSG Mini) and he said he'd watch the series only if Krause was in it. I can see him doing a series, especially since he did Six Feet Under, and maybe Margulies (since she was on ER) but I don't think Elle Fanning would do it since she's got a promising career ahead of her (if you use her sister as the prime example, that is).
I also feel like they left Kreutzfeld completely out there as well. Did he die? Is he trapped like Anna was? Who knows!
I'm sooo over cliffhangers right now, I tell you. I think every single show that I watch (that is currently on hiatus, which is every one except for My Boys, on TBS) ended with a cliffhanger and will not be returning for 3-4 weeks, during which time I won't even have classes to distract me since finals are this week, and damn, I definitely should be studying.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble! I always get ahead of myself...

Date: 2006-12-18 07:50 pm (UTC)I think they deliberately left threads unresolved because they wanted to leave it open for a series. Which, as cool as it could potentially be, annoys me- one of the reasons I was looking forward to the miniseries was because the format gives you a finite amount of time to wrap up the story and get closure. A regular show will never let them find all the answers because that would mean it was over.

Date: 2006-12-18 08:18 pm (UTC)Ahh, okay, that makes a little more sense. But I was promised history-erasing! Ahem.
And yeah, there ought to be a way for there to be closure for the events of the miniseries and still leave stuff open. I mean, keep that last shot of the key reappearing, but tie up some of the loose ends, please!

Date: 2006-12-19 05:19 pm (UTC)The original occupant was the one who was shifted out of time and space, whose life was completely changed by whatever happened to create the objects. This didn't happen to Joe when he became the new occupant, because the universe was already sufficiently different for the occupant to do what he was supposed to do.
No, I wasn't completely happy with the end either, but this could work if there was meant to be something more done with the show than just the miniseries. Also, it explains the objects calling to the occupant.
