Aug. 27th, 2008 01:50 pmTim Gunn, how are you so awesome?
In other news, my internet keeps going out. How else am I supposed toread articles in which Tim Gunn is delightfully bitchy about Cindy McCain apply for jobs without the interwebs? Woe!
Time Warner sucks. Anybody in the L.A. area use something different/better? I've about had it.

Date: 2008-08-27 08:59 pm (UTC)But... So much of the media coverage (and I'm not talking about Tim Gunn talking about what Tim Gunn talks about, because it's totally appropriate that he comment on the potential first ladies' outfits) of presidential elections and campaigns sounds like you're trying to elect a monarchy. And you know, royals are great, we voted to keep ours, but I'm really glad my monarchy has minimal real power (and never uses what it has). :/
Yay Tim! (keeping this positive)

Date: 2008-08-27 09:10 pm (UTC)I meant that a lot of the critiques and superficial commentary seems to be related to the candidates' appearance, character traits that aren't necessarily related to politics, what their families are like, how they present themselves (the whole stupid 'celebrity' thing)... things that seem more about being a figurehead than about governing a country.
And I do see the point that the president *is* a figurehead as well, and perhaps that's why I'm getting confused and/or frustrated by it.
Sometimes it feels as though the figurehead aspect overwhelms the actual governing ability aspect. (insert caveats, not a citizen, no longer in the country, blablahblah)
And I do accept (to some degree) the argument that a candidate's integrity in other aspects of his life may reflect on his trustworthiness as a head of state. it just seems to be a bit *too* much about the little things.
