Alien Sex

So, I've been watching a little Farscape, mostly because siriaeve MADE me (or, all right, suggested that I should). There are two things that I have concluded:

1. Aeryn wins at awesome.
2. I wish the aliens on SGA were, well, more alien. Because this would lead to more stories with bizarre alien sex.

I am deeply, deeply disappointed that we don't have more of these. I mean, sure, there's some tentacle fic, but personally I could do with a lot more stories where the people of Pegasus do not have quite so compatible physiologies. This is not something that the Stargate universe seems compelled to explore—which is why we should explore it! With porn.

I would love to see stories where, say, Ronon or Teyla have equipment, or even just practices, that are not what our Earthers expect. Or, stories where what our boys (or girls) are packing is surprising or horrifying to the people of Pegasus. Or...and here I have to trace this back to Farscape and the episode that pushed all this muck to the forefront of my brain. Anyway, in this episode, 'The Flax,' they all encounter this species they aren't particularly familiar with—this scavenger guy who they kind of coerce into helping them out. And blah blah plot, he does, and then as D'Argo is leaving, scavenger dude suddenly hits on him. He reveals that he is actually the female of his species. So. I want the fics where Ronon is female of his species or Teyla the male of hers. C'mon! You know you do, too!

I would also love more "John-or-Rodney-or-whoever-is-actually-an-alien" stories, à la eliade's fabulous An Aesthetic Solitary Thing. *delighted shiver*

So...would anyone else be interested in a fic challenge of this sort, or am I just being a kinky bitch? And if you are interested, how would you like to see it run? Casual/structured, flashfic quick or with a longer lead time? Brainstorm with me! Or I may have to satisfy my needs by rushing off and writing the tender story of Ronon and his alien vagina.*

*I think I have discovered my new favorite threat. Imagine, at work: "Well, BossMan, if you can't make up your mind about these captions, I'll just have to rush off and write the tender story of Ronon's alien vagina!" BossMan: *cowers in fear* *acquiesces to my every whim*

Farscape is, indeed, awesome that way. The problem with the SG universe is that we're told that everyone evolved from the meddling of the Ancients, right? So they're all derived from definitely humanoid stock (and we'll just handwave all biology ever because SG biology is total nonsense), and therefore unlikely to be sekritly very different from humans.

Which is not to stop you writing fic about it! But it's like the hypothetical language barrier - you'd have to ignore canon to play with it.

PS On B5 there is a race of aliens who look and behave a lot like humans, until it is revealed that they have genitalia (and internal structures) totally unlike ours *g*. There's actually (technically) at least one scene of full-frontal male nudity on the show, but it doesn't count because it's alien nudity.

The Ancients meddled, yeah, but who's to say they always used the same design? Or that after the initial meddling, the process of evolution didn't go differently on different worlds?

I actually think that, like the language thing, there's so little canon that you can basically dream up whatever wacky shit you want.

This is exactly where Stargate completely loses and Farscape totally wins. Farscape might be too insane for some people in stretches, but it's so alien! And sexy, of course. I still miss Crichton. :((

I think a shorter challenge - a month or so - would get people writing more; if there's too much time, people might forget about wanting to write for it. Then again, people are starting to go into a frenzy about 14 Valentines, so maybe something that ends end of Feb/March would be wiser?

I can totally see Teyla as being the male of her species and maybe she's in a relationship with someone and John's all 'So, when are you going to have the babiez?' and she's all 'what are you talking about? I don't have the babiez' and John and Rodney are like 'O.o' and she confesses that it's the male Athosians who do the whole child-bearing things because they're the female of the species, so to speak :P

See, I love the idea of alien!John, and I loved Anna's Alien!Rodney story, but weirdly, I just have this reflexive "nooo!!!!" feeling as regards Ronon and Teyla. I don't know why, it's just... I mean... they're alien and "other" already, so making up stuff about how they're weird sexually just feels kind of... dehumanizing? Like the old rumors about sideways vaginas and how black men have huge cocks and stuff. "Well, they're not like us, so they must be BARELY-HUMAN FREAKS!" ... I mean, do you see where I'm coming from? Ronon and Teyla aren't another species, they're *human*. I feel weird about stories that try to make them not human. ^_^

No, I totally know what you mean: the tone could easily go totally wrong. It would have to be done in such a way that all the Pegasus Galaxy people are like, "Nooooo, this is normal; you're the freaks." Or, say, it could turn out that the Ancients seeded all the planets with people who were like them, and then it's on Earth that evolution went wonky.

But it's very annoying that the Stargate TPTB have their little trend of making all their main alien characters not white, which then adds real issues to what I'd like to have be, "alien sex is kinky and fun, let's have more alien sex." But you're right, since those issues are there, they can't not be dealt with.

Though sometimes I am shallow and would like to ignore them for the sake of the porn.

I read somewhere that there is a species of fish that are all male except the leader who is female, and when she dies, one if the males becomes female, to lead. I really want to see this applied to Athosians. Lol, Teyla was born male. *shakes head*

I think I'd like to see it any way...? casual would be nice like a dropped line that could get everyone to go 'Huh?', but structured means there is more plot and I like plot, flshfic could be funny but with a long lead time you could take it apart and analyze it more... I, too, have felt the lack of alien-aliens in the Stargate universe. But rather than a lack of imagination on the part of the writers or anything like that (although, let's face it, there are times when they do seem to suffer from it, and fandom gives one collective sigh of, "Why?"), I've always just seen the point of the Stargate 'verse, at least on SG-1, as kind of exploring the similarities between the alien cultures and Earth's. After all, on SG-1, most of the aliens we encounter are human.

You're right, though, SGA is a different story. They're in another galaxy. I want some freaky cultural practices far beyond the expedition's ken. I want to see some bizarre extra limbs or a third eye or secret genital-tentacles or something.

Anyway, if you did a challenge like that, I'd definitely sign up. Your comment about Teyla being the male of her species made the image of that "Gender and Class in the Eastern Bloc" class I took a year ago smack me in the face, and now there's inspiration.
